After Illumi, disguised as Gittarackur, entered the room, he immediately sensed the tense atmosphere.
He asked calmly, "Did something happen?"
"No, nothing at all," Hisoka replied as he retracted his killing intent.
Emiya clicked his tongue.
He had expected one of his companions to enter next.
Instead, the last two were a killer and a psychopath.
This was not a good start.
"Since everyone's here, let's go," Emiya said as he put on the timer.
The others nodded and fastened timers onto their wrists as well.
At the same time, a line of text appeared on the wall screen.
The Road of Decisions.
From here to the end, the five of you must proceed based on the principle of majority rule.
Emiya smiled.
"Majority rule. Then we have the absolute advantage."
There were three of them.
Hisoka and Illumi only made two.
Neither of them cared.
Hisoka said indifferently, "In the end, everyone wants to reach the stairs. Majority rule won't matter."
"Alright. Let's move."
After leaving the room, their first decision appeared immediately.
Left or right.
'O' for right.
'X' for left.
Emiya didn't care.
Either way led to the stairs.
The only difference was difficulty.
And none of the five present were ordinary.
Illumi and Hisoka were Nen users.
Emiya and Robin were Devil Fruit users.
The last one, Shigure Kōzaka, was a top-tier martial artist.
No matter how hard the trial was, it wouldn't stop them.
Emiya chose right.
To his surprise, only one vote went that way.
Everyone else chose left.
Hisoka smiled.
"Looks like everyone prefers left."
Emiya fell silent.
Since the choice was random anyway, it didn't matter.
He followed them down the left path.
While walking, Emiya asked casually, "By the way, Shigure. The fight last night between Elder and Netero-who won?"
Hisoka and Illumi exchanged glances.
Their attention sharpened.
Among Nen users, there were few who didn't know Netero's name.
He represented a peak that was almost unreachable.
Illumi's Zoldyck family wouldn't even accept contracts involving him.
Now they were hearing that someone had fought him.
They listened closely.
"Elder won," Shigure Kōzaka said plainly. "In one move."
"One move?" Emiya was slightly surprised.
Because Netero was a Nen user, most of his training went into Nen.
Pure martial arts should have been inferior to the Invincible Superman.
And yet he only lost in one move?
"So Netero's martial arts are already that high," Emiya said.
Shigure nodded, recalling the scene.
"He was distracted."
"You mean Netero was distracted, and that's how Hayato Fūrinji won in one move?"
Shigure grunted in confirmation.
"So if he hadn't been distracted, Elder might not have ended it in one move?"
"Yes."
Emiya sighed.
"To reach that level in both Nen and martial arts at the same time... Netero really is remarkable."
"It'd be a shame for him to die."
Hisoka froze.
"Netero will die?"
"Everyone dies," Emiya replied.
"Netero's no exception."
"But the way you said that," Hisoka narrowed his eyes, "it sounds like he'll be killed."
He wasn't stupid.
But he couldn't imagine who could kill the strongest Nen user alive.
Even the Phantom Troupe couldn't manage that.
"What does it have to do with you?" Emiya asked.
Hisoka's eyes flickered.
Then he laughed.
"You're right. Nothing at all."
They walked a few hundred meters, turned a corner, and suddenly the path ended.
A vast space opened before them.
At its center was a square stage.
Everything else was empty.
Below it was a bottomless abyss.
On the opposite side stood an exit.
Five prisoners waited there.
White robes.
White hoods.
Chains.
They were criminals from around the world, each sentenced to over a hundred years of hard labor.
Which was just another way of saying life.
When Emiya and the others arrived, one prisoner was unchained and unhooded.
He shouted, "We are hired judges of the Hunter Committee. You must fight us one-on-one."
"Each of you may fight once. You decide the order."
"It's best-of-five. Win three matches, and you pass."
"The rules are simple. No restrictions. No draws."
"The fight ends only when someone dies or gives up."
"Now vote."
"Choose 'O' to accept. 'X' to refuse."
There was no hesitation.
They chose 'O'.
"Send out your first contestant."
"I'll go," Hisoka said, stepping forward.
A path formed beneath his feet, leading to the stage.
His killing intent locked firmly onto his opponent.
He was in a terrible mood.
He had no interest in childish majority-rule games.
If his teammates weren't Emiya and the others, he would have crushed them and cleared the exam alone.
Trap Tower meant nothing to him.
But this time, he was unlucky.
His teammate was Emiya.
And that made him cautious.
After yesterday's beating, he couldn't afford to act out.
Failing the Hunter Exam wasn't an option.
So he had held it in.
Now, he planned to vent it all on these so-called judges.
"Begin," the judge sneered.
"My favorite thing is breaking bones and listening to screams."
Hisoka's killing intent surged.
He licked his lips.
"How fun. My favorite thing is killing people."
The judge froze, then laughed.
"Then let's-"
"No need," Hisoka interrupted, shaking his head.
"What, scared?" the judge mocked.
Hisoka laughed.
"You idiot."
The judge roared and rushed forward.
Then his vision tilted.
He looked down.
Two legs stood on the stage.
His legs.
The rest of him was gone.
He had been cut in half without realizing it.
As his upper body fell, terror filled his face.
"How... is that poss-"
He died before finishing.
Emiya clicked his tongue.
"Did you really need to make it that bloody?"
Hisoka said nothing and sat down.
Emiya didn't care.
But the remaining prisoners were shaken.
Even so, knowing Hisoka had already fought, they forced themselves to continue.
The second judge stepped forward.
Emiya glanced at Illumi.
"How about you go next?"
Illumi nodded.
He walked out.
Less than ten seconds later, it was over.
He returned.
Another corpse lay on the stage.
Two instant kills.
The remaining prisoners were terrified.
They stared at the group, frozen.
After a long moment, the third prisoner stepped out.
A beautiful woman.
She avoided looking at Emiya.
Her gaze shifted between Robin and Shigure Kōzaka.
After a brief hesitation, she chose Robin.
"The smelly men already fought," she said. "How about a match between women?"
Robin accepted without hesitation.
She stepped onto the stage calmly.
She had wandered the seas since childhood.
She had seen the world's underworld.
Killing didn't bother her.
The woman spoke again.
"A fight between women shouldn't be as barbaric."
"So let's decide the winner differently."
Robin tilted her head slightly.
"What do you propose?"
The woman looked at Robin's long black hair.
"For a woman, hair is life."
"Whoever shaves the other bald wins."
Robin nodded.
"I agree."
"Then let it begin."
The woman charged, scissors raised, aiming for Robin's hair.
Robin spoke calmly.
"Seis Fleur: Anchor."
Six arms bloomed from her body.
A faint smile appeared on her face.
