Chapter 86 - Chapter 3: The Seventh Crossing

After Emiya's brief reasoning, Shizuka Hiratsuka finally calmed down.

She realized that Emiya was right.

She had family in this world.

Friends.

And a job as a teacher.

It was impossible for her to abandon all of that and live in another world.

She couldn't do it.

"I'm sorry," Shizuka Hiratsuka said with a wry smile. "I got a little hot-headed just now."

"It's fine," Emiya replied. "That kind of reaction is normal in a situation like this. What matters is that you've thought it through."

Then-

"I have thought it through," Shizuka Hiratsuka said.

"I want to go see another world."

"Huh?"

Emiya froze.

Did I not explain this clearly enough?

Shizuka Hiratsuka's eyes sparkled.

"I've already given up on finding a boyfriend," she said calmly. "But I still want to see what another world looks like. Meeting you today was an accident, but that accident showed me how big the world really is."

"If I let this opportunity go, I'll probably regret it for the rest of my life."

"So I've decided. I'm going with you."

Emiya opened his mouth to respond, but she cut him off.

"Listen to me. You said you can jump between worlds. That means you can come and go freely, right?"

Emiya gave a bitter smile.

She was sharp.

"...Yeah. You're right."

When he used to watch the show, he had always liked Shizuka Hiratsuka.

He had even imagined how nice it would be to meet a "Cute Shizuka" in real life.

Back then, it had felt completely impossible.

And yet, only a few years later, he was standing right in front of her.

He had no intention of pursuing anything romantic.

But helping her see another world?

There was no harm in that.

Maybe this was just one of those strange twists of fate.

"Since you're that determined," Emiya said, "I'll take you to another world. Think of it as a short adventure for the two of us."

"But we'll probably be gone for a few days. You should prepare first-"

"Wait."

Shizuka Hiratsuka didn't let him finish.

She rushed into her bedroom like a gust of wind, dragged out a suitcase, and immediately started packing clothes.

Emiya walked over and shook his head.

"You don't need to pack any of that."

She froze.

Emiya raised his hand.

Several pieces of clothing appeared out of thin air.

"I can create clothes, shoes, toothbrushes, soap, even water and food," he said calmly. "I don't bring luggage with me."

He spread his empty hands.

"What you actually need to do is tell your family and friends. And make sure your job is taken care of."

"If you disappear without warning and no one can contact you, what do you think happens? Police. Missing person reports."

"And when you come back, how are you going to explain it?"

Shizuka Hiratsuka slapped her forehead.

She had completely forgotten.

"...You're right. Wait for me."

She immediately pulled out her phone and started making calls right in front of Emiya.

"Hello, Mom? I'm going abroad for a bit. Tell Dad for me, okay? What? Why so sudden? Long story. Don't worry, it's nothing serious. I'll be back within a month."

"Hello, Haruno? I might be overseas for a while. I won't be able to come back anytime soon, so you can go to the expo by yourself."

"Hello, this is-"

After several calls, she put her phone away and smiled.

"Alright. Let's go."

"Aren't you going to request leave from work?" Emiya asked.

"There's no need," she replied casually. "I'm a teacher."

"...And?"

"Ah. You're not from this world, are you?" she said, then smiled. "It's summer vacation right now."

Emiya understood immediately.

"Alright then," he said. "Let's go."

"Of course," Shizuka Hiratsuka replied, clearly excited.

Emiya nodded.

He raised his psychic power, wrapped both of them in a protective field, and activated his ability.

The world vanished.

He didn't take her to the DanMachi world.

Nor to Axel.

He chose a completely new destination.

If he was going somewhere unfamiliar anyway, he might as well bring her along.

If it turned out to be a fantasy world, it would fulfill her wish perfectly.

But the moment they arrived-

There was no ground beneath his feet.

Splash.

They fell straight into water.

Thanks to the psychic barrier, neither of them got wet.

The next instant, Emiya lifted both of them out of the water with his power.

Only then did he realize where they were.

The ocean.

An endless sea stretched out in every direction.

"Where are we?" Shizuka Hiratsuka asked.

She stood beside him, feet suspended in midair, yet it felt as solid as standing on land.

She knew it was his psychic power holding her up.

Emiya shook his head.

"I don't know. This isn't a world I've been to before."

"A completely new one."

"A new world... with an ocean this big," Shizuka Hiratsuka said thoughtfully. "Could this be the Pacific Ocean?"

"Not necessarily," Emiya replied. "Earth isn't the only planet with oceans."

"There are plenty of worlds like this."

She nodded in agreement.

"That's true. So what now?"

"First, we find land," Emiya said. "Or people."

He chose a direction and flew forward, carrying both of them with his psychic power.

Together, they weighed less than one hundred and fifty kilograms.

For someone who could lift tens of tons, this was nothing.

And with the Flame God's Ring supporting him, even flying for an entire day wouldn't drain his power.

He wasn't worried.

They flew at extreme speed.

About two hours later, an island finally appeared on the horizon.

They headed straight toward it.

But they stayed cautious.

Not knowing what kind of world this was, they avoided being seen descending from the sky.

They chose a deserted area.

And landed quietly.
