Chapter 85 - Chapter 2: A Dream That Wasn't Meant to Happen

To be honest, Emiya felt a bit disappointed after figuring out what kind of world he had arrived in.

He had enjoyed watching My Youth Romantic Comedy Is Wrong, As I Expected. He even found it interesting.

But actually becoming part of that story?

He'd rather not.

He had been out of college for years. There was no way he could blend in with a group of high school students.

And he wasn't interested in a "correct" woman like Yukino Yukinoshita.

He couldn't even get interested in Haruno Yukinoshita.

As for Yui Yuigahama, Iroha Isshiki, and the others, they were just kids in his eyes.

There was no way he'd make a move on girls like that.

If there was one woman in the entire plot he felt any interest toward, it was the owner of this room.

Shizuka Hiratsuka.

But even then, Emiya had no intention of making a move on her either.

The reason was simple.

As a world-jumper, Emiya was never destined to have only one woman.

He would definitely have many.

Shizuka Hiratsuka, raised with modern values, would never accept that.

She wouldn't tolerate being with a "scumbag."

So from the very beginning, there was no future between them.

In fact, it wasn't limited to her.

Emiya avoided women who had received modern education in general.

They had grown up believing in monogamy.

Forcing them to accept a harem would only hurt them.

It would also create unnecessary trouble within the harem itself.

Because of that, Emiya usually chose partners from other worlds.

Fantasy worlds.

Ancient worlds.

Worlds where women could accept such arrangements.

Only then could he gather them together without worry.

...He was getting sidetracked.

Emiya pulled his thoughts back.

He had already decided.

He would leave this world.

It was an ordinary modern world, almost identical to the one he originally lived in.

There was nothing here that could attract him.

And since he wasn't going to pursue any women here, there was no reason to stay.

He was ready to activate his ability and move on to the next world.

Just then-

Click.

The sound of a door opening echoed through the room.

A woman in a tracksuit walked in.

Delicate features.

Black hair.

A face identical to the one in the photo he was holding.

The owner of the room had returned.

The moment Shizuka Hiratsuka stepped inside, she saw a man standing in her living room.

A man she didn't recognize.

Holding a photo of her.

Her brain instantly went into overdrive.

A strange man.

Inside her house.

Holding her photo.

Shizuka Hiratsuka clapped her hands together.

"I see. So this is what they call a stalker."

Emiya froze.

"...No, this is a mis-"

Before he could finish, she lunged forward.

The three-meter distance vanished in an instant.

"No questions asked! Just grit your teeth!"

Her fist shot toward his chin.

A devastating uppercut.

Emiya reacted on instinct.

A psychic shield formed in front of him.

Then he realized something.

The shield was as hard as steel.

Shizuka Hiratsuka had completely misunderstood him.

That punch carried real force.

If it hit the shield, the result would be disastrous.

Her bones would shatter.

So in a split second, Emiya deactivated the shield and let his psychic power surge outward.

Shizuka Hiratsuka froze.

The entire exchange happened in an instant.

Her fist had barely been thrown before invisible force locked her body in place.

Her knuckles stopped less than ten centimeters from Emiya's chin.

Her expression changed immediately.

She didn't know what he had done.

But she knew one thing.

She was in serious trouble.

Countless terrible possibilities flashed through her mind.

Emiya, completely unaware of her thoughts, didn't make any further moves.

"Are you calm now?" he asked.

Shizuka Hiratsuka couldn't move.

She blinked repeatedly.

Emiya took that as a yes.

He released his psychic power.

The moment she regained control, she jumped back, staring at him warily.

"Who are you?"

"Why are you in my room?"

"And what was that just now?"

Emiya stayed silent.

She frowned.

"Why aren't you answering?"

He sighed.

"To be honest, explaining this is troublesome."

"I was thinking of just leaving."

"I'm not really interested in this world anyway."

Shizuka Hiratsuka fell silent.

Before she could speak, Emiya continued.

"...Never mind."

"Meeting is a kind of destiny."

"I'll give you a brief explanation."

"Whether you believe it or not is up to you."

"I'm not a stalker."

"I have superpowers."

"I was using them earlier and accidentally ended up in your room."

"I got curious and looked at your photo."

"When I was about to leave, you came back and misunderstood me."

"That's it."

Shizuka Hiratsuka stared at him.

"...So freezing me just now was also a superpower?"

Emiya gestured.

The glass of water on the coffee table floated into his hand.

"Telekinesis," he said.

"That's the power I used."

"You've seen it before. It shows up in TV shows and comics all the time."

Shizuka Hiratsuka scratched her head.

Her eyes sparkled faintly.

"So people with superpowers really exist..."

"Wait."

"You said you're not interested in this world."

"You're not from here, are you?"

"Are you someone with powers from another world?"

Emiya looked at her with mild surprise.

"You catch on fast."

She was clearly a manga fan.

Her imagination worked overtime.

"So I was right?"

"Yes."

"You can travel between worlds?"

"Of course."

"You've been to many worlds?"

"Other worlds really exist?"

Her excitement kept rising.

"Yes," Emiya replied calmly.

"There are worlds with monsters."

"Worlds with gods."

"And the kind of fantasy worlds you see in comics."

"Heroes. Demon kings. Magic."

"That sort of thing."

Shizuka Hiratsuka burst out laughing.

"That's amazing!"

"This is amazing!"

"So the comics weren't lying!"

"They really exist!"

"This is incredible!"

Emiya was speechless.

That was her reaction?

Her thought process really was different.

"I've explained everything I needed to," Emiya said.

"I'm leaving now."

"Leaving?" she asked blankly. "Why?"

"I already told you."

"This world isn't interesting."

"I'm going to explore another one."

"Take me with you."

The words slipped out of her mouth.

Emiya sighed.

"You don't know who I am."

"You don't know if I'm good or bad."

"And you want to come with me?"

"Aren't you afraid I'll take you somewhere else, turn you into a slave, and sell you when I get bored?"

"With your looks, you'd be quite valuable in many worlds."

Her expression didn't waver.

"If you had bad intentions," she said firmly, "you would've acted already."

"There was no reason to let me go."

"And the fact that you're explaining things means you're not a bad person."

"More importantly, don't underestimate me."

"I'm a teacher."

"I'm good at reading people."

"I can tell at a glance that you're not evil."

"You're just an ordinary person who hates trouble."

Emiya chuckled.

"If you were that good at reading people, you wouldn't still be single."

"W-Who says I'm single?!" she exploded.

Emiya replied calmly.

"This is your room."

"Everything here belongs to you."

"There's not a single man's item."

"And you still say you're not single?"

"I-I have a boyfriend!" she shot back. "We just don't live together!"

"If you had a boyfriend," Emiya said, "you wouldn't have said 'take me with you.'"

"When something like this happens, people in relationships instinctively think about their partner."

"They might even want to give them a chance."

"But you didn't."

Under his steady gaze, Shizuka Hiratsuka finally broke.

"...Fine."

"I admit it."

"I'm single."

"I don't have a boyfriend."

"Is that my fault?!"

"I've been on countless blind dates!"

"Why hasn't a single man shown interest in me?!"

"I'm not ugly!"

"My family background isn't bad!"

"The first guy I ever went on a blind date with is already married with a kid!"

"And I'm still going on blind dates!"

"Are all the men in this world blind?!"

"If that's the case, I'll just go to another world and find a good ma-"

Ouch.

Emiya chopped the back of her neck.

"Stop saying nonsense."

"You want me to take you to another world to find a boyfriend?"

"Are you insane?"

"Do you think this is like going abroad?"

"Without me, could you come back?"

"Even if you found someone, would he abandon his world for you?"

"Or would you abandon your family and friends for him?"

"You haven't thought any of this through."

"And you still want to go to another world for a boyfriend?"

"You're dreaming."
