Chapter 14 - Welcome Kazuma

The magical light dimmed.

Silence swallowed the guild hall.

At the center of the scorched floor stood a blue-haired girl, soaked, trembling, and looking like she had just fallen face-first into regret itself.

Next to her stood a plain-looking teenage boy with messy chestnut-brown hair and green eyes, wearing a tracksuit that absolutely did not belong in a fantasy world.

Kazuma Satou.

[Insert image of Kazuma Satou]

Kazuma blinked.

Once.

Twice.

He slowly looked around.

Wooden tables. Armor-clad adventurers. A bar. A quest board. A very real fantasy aesthetic.

His eyes lit up like a kid on Christmas morning.

"It's a parallel world…" he whispered.

Then louder.

"IT REALLY IS A PARALLEL WORLD—HELL YEAH! I'M REALLY ISEKAI'D! I'M GONNA USE MAGIC, GO ON ADVENTURES, GET A HARE—"

SMACK.

Levi reached out and casually clamped a hand over Kazuma's mouth.

"Stop embarrassing yourself," Levi said flatly.

"Welcome to Axel."

The entire guild stared.

Kazuma muffled something unintelligible under Levi's hand.

Aqua, meanwhile, looked like her soul had left her body and was filing a complaint with reality.

Her eyes slowly drifted upward.

"…Why," she croaked, "are you here?"

Levi looked down at her, expression unreadable.

"Funny," he replied. "I was about to ask you the same thing."

Luna leaned forward over the counter, eyes wide. "Levi… who are they?"

Levi removed his hand from Kazuma, who immediately gasped for air.

"The boy," Levi said, "is Kazuma Satou. Freshly dead. Newly traumatized. Still optimistic."

Kazuma froze. "H-Hey, how do you know my—"

"The blue-haired mess," Levi continued calmly, "is Aqua. Goddess of water. Professional crybaby. And unfortunately—"

He glanced at her.

"—the one who is responsible for both of us being here."

The guild erupted.

"Goddess?"

"No way."

"She looks useless."

"Why is she wet?"

Aqua snapped.

"HEY! I AM NOT USELESS—!"

She slipped.

Face-planted.

The floor cracked slightly.

Levi pinched the bridge of his nose. "Yep. That's her."

Kazuma stared at Aqua on the ground, then at Levi, then back at Aqua.

"…Wait," he said slowly. "You know her?"

Levi nodded. "She laughed at my death too."

Kazuma's eye twitched.

"She… laughed…?"

Levi smirked faintly. "Right?"

Something deep and dangerous sparked between the two men.

A moment of pure, shared understanding.

Kyouya stepped closer, arms crossed. "So. Another transmigrator."

Kazuma turned to him. "Another?"

Levi finally released a breath he didn't realize he'd been holding.

"Kazuma," he said, "before you say anything stupid—"

Too late.

Kazuma pointed dramatically at Aqua.

"You're telling me this useless blue-haired NEET goddess dragged me into this world, took my original life, and now I'm stuck with her?!"

Aqua shot up like a missile. "WHO ARE YOU CALLING USELESS, SHUT-IN TRACKSUIT TRASH?!"

The two immediately began screaming at each other.

The guild hall returned to normal Axel chaos.

Levi turned slightly toward Luna.

"…You see why I told you to reinforce the ceiling."

Luna nodded slowly. "I believe you."

Levi let out a long, tired sigh.

He stepped forward and, with practised ease, grabbed both combatants by the scruff of their collars—Aqua in one hand, Kazuma in the other—lifting them just enough that their feet barely touched the floor.

"Enough," Levi said calmly.

The pressure in his voice alone was enough to shut the room up.

He released Kazuma first. Kazuma stumbled back, coughing, brushing dust off his tracksuit and trying to salvage what little dignity he had left.

Levi didn't release Aqua.

Instead, he lifted her properly—one arm under her knees, the other behind her back.

A princess carry.

The guild collectively inhaled.

Aqua froze.

Her face turned red instantly.

"H–H–HEY! PUT ME DOWN! WHY ARE YOU CARRYING ME LIKE THIS?!"

Levi looked down at her, completely unfazed.

"Quick question," he said evenly.

"Was it Aqua who chose you… Or were you the one who chose her?"

Aqua went stiff.

Levi already knew the answer.

'I already know, he thought'.

Kazuma finished dusting himself off and looked between them.

"Well," Kazuma said, shrugging, "I picked her as my perk. I mean—"

He glanced at Aqua.

"She's a goddess. She had to be amazing, right?"

Aqua puffed her chest out proudly.

"SEE? HE GETS IT!"

Levi's eye twitched.

Inside his head, his soul screamed.

'Any other world,' Levi thought flatly,

'Yes. '

He looked down at Aqua again.

But this is Konosuba.

Out loud, Levi simply said:

"…I see."

That single phrase carried deep, profound pity.

Kazuma frowned. "Why are you looking at me like that?"

Levi gently set Aqua back on her feet.

She wobbled.

Immediately grabbed Levi's sleeve.

"Don't leave me alone with him," she whispered.

Levi stared at her.

"…You chose him."

Aqua pointed at Kazuma. "HE LOOKED RESPONSIBLE!"

Kazuma shouted back. "YOU SAID YOU'D SUPPORT ME!"

Kyouya covered his face with his hand. "So this is what bad choices look like in real time."

Wiz tilted her head, whispering to Yunyun. "Is this… normal for gods?"

Yunyun whispered back, "I think… no?"

Luna leaned over the counter again. "Levi," she said carefully, "should we… stop them?"

Levi watched Aqua and Kazuma start arguing again—this time over who was supposed to pay for lodging.

He exhaled.

"…No," he said.

"This is fate correcting itself."

Then, with a faint smirk, he added:

"Kazuma Satou."

Kazuma looked at him. "Yeah?"

"Welcome to Axel," Levi said again—this time with meaning.

"You're going to hate it here."

Somewhere in the distance, fate laughed.

Levi didn't even look at Kazuma when he reached into his coat.

A small pouch of gold clinked as he set it gently on the counter in front of Luna.

"Get these two adventure cards," Levi said calmly. "Trust me—they don't have money."

Aqua gasped. "HEY! I have money!"

Levi glanced at her once.

"You have confidence. That's not the same thing."

Luna took the pouch, weighed it in her hand, then nodded. "Understood."

Kazuma stared at the counter like he'd just been slapped by reality itself.

"…Wait," he said slowly.

"You need to pay to get an adventurer card?"

Levi and Kyouya exchanged a look.

A long, quiet, deeply sympathetic look.

They didn't judge him.

They couldn't.

They had once been him.

Everyone else in the guild, however—

—did.

Dust snorted into his mug.

"First time?"

One adventurer muttered, "He thought this was free…"

Another whispered, "He's already dead inside."

Kazuma's shoulders sagged. "This world is a scam."

Aqua crossed her arms proudly. "Obviously! Why do you think I'm suffering?"

Levi pinched the bridge of his nose.

"Luna," he added, "basic classes only. Don't upsell them."

Kazuma perked up. "Upsell?"

Luna smiled politely. "Ignore him."

Kyouya leaned in toward Levi and spoke quietly—in English.

"You're already adopting them."

Levi sighed.

"I hate that you're right."

Aqua suddenly grabbed Levi's arm.

"So," she said brightly, "since you paid for us, you're basically our sponsor now, right?"

Levi looked down at her hand on his sleeve.

Slowly.

Very slowly.

"…Aqua," he said, voice calm and dangerous,

"do not push your luck on day one."

She immediately let go.

Kazuma swallowed.

'Yeah', he thought.

'I picked the wrong goddess.'

After Aqua and Kazuma finally received their adventurer cards, Levi didn't even let them celebrate.

He marched them straight out of Axel, past the walls, and into the open fields.

The grass swayed gently.

The sky was calm.

And in the distance—

A giant frog croaked.

Levi stopped and pointed at it.

"Alright," he said evenly. "Training question."

He looked at Kazuma.

Then Aqua.

"If you see one of those," Levi continued, "what do you do?"

Aqua placed a hand over her chest, chin high, eyes shining with absolute confidence.

"Well, obviously," she declared,

"I'll use my Goddess Punch!"

Kazuma looked down at his hands.

Then back up.

"…I don't have a weapon," he said slowly.

"So… punch it?"

Levi stared at them.

For a full three seconds.

"…Wrong," he said flatly.

"Both of you."

Kazuma blinked. "Huh?"

Before either of them could ask more—

Levi vanished.

A blue-and-white blur tore across the field.

In the next instant, Levi was standing on top of the frog, his fist already coming down.

BOOM.

The ground cracked.

Dust exploded outward.

Kazuma's jaw dropped.

"WH—"

But the frog—

It jiggled.

Like jelly.

Not a scratch.

It croaked, completely unharmed.

Levi reappeared beside them, brushing his knuckles like nothing happened.

"These things," he said calmly, "are immune to physical damage."

Aqua's confidence shattered instantly.

"…What?"

"But," Levi continued, eyes narrowing,

"that doesn't mean they're invincible."

He stepped forward.

So did Kyouya.

The air shifted.

Kyouya drew his sword in one smooth motion.

Levi unsheathed his gun blade, the barrel clicking softly.

They moved at the same time.

Kyouya sliced through two frogs in a single arc—clean, precise, merciless.

Levi fired.

Bang. Bang.

One frog exploded in a burst of magic and gore.

He spun, blade flashing, and cleaved another in half before it hit the ground.

Both men landed lightly.

Silence.

Only the wind and the fading croaks remained.

Levi turned back to Aqua and Kazuma.

"Anything else," he said,

"is fair game."

Kyouya sheathed his sword and added calmly,

"In short—every monster in this world is immune to something."

He glanced at Kazuma.

"And weak to something else."

Kazuma stared at the field of dead frogs.

Then at Levi.

Then at Aqua.

"…So punching is useless."

Levi nodded. "Most of the time."

Aqua puffed out her cheeks. "That's unfair!"

Levi pointed at her card.

"You have purification, blessings, support magic, and divine skills."

Then he looked at Kazuma.

"You," he said, "have potential."

Kazuma blinked. "Really?"

Levi smirked.

"You're alive."

Kyouya sighed. "Barely."

Levi turned and started walking.

"Come on," he said over his shoulder.

"Let's get you two a weapon, teach you how not to die, and—"

He paused, glancing back at Aqua.

"—establish one rule."

Aqua tilted her head. "Hmm?"

Levi's eyes were dead serious.

"Never touch a giant frog unless you're ready to be eaten."

Kazuma swallowed hard.

"…I don't like this world anymore."

Kazuma looked between Levi, Kyouya, and the pile of frog remains, then raised a hand.

"…Okay," he said slowly. "Serious question."

Everyone turned to him.

"How do I know," Kazuma continued, "what monsters are weak to what? Because I feel like guessing wrong here gets me eaten."

Wiz smiled gently.

"Oh, that's simple."

She reached behind her.

Not to a shelf.

Not to a bag.

She just… reached.

And pulled out a thick, leather-bound tome that absolutely did not exist a second ago.

Kazuma's eyes widened.

"…Where did that come from?"

Wiz blinked. "Hmm? My inventory."

Levi nodded like this was completely normal.

"She does that."

Wiz held the book up proudly.

"This is the Monster Encyclopedia," she explained.

"It lists known monsters, their habitats, resistances, weaknesses, behavior patterns, and—"

She flipped a page.

"—the most common ways adventurers die to them."

Kazuma paled.

"…There's a section for that?"

Wiz smiled brighter. "Several."

She opened the book to the Giant Frog page.

> Giant Frog

Resistances: Physical impact, blunt force

Weaknesses: Slashing weapons, piercing attacks, elemental magic

Special Notes: Sticky tongue, high swallowing probability

Survival Tip: Do not engage alone.

Kazuma stared.

"…This thing exists and nobody told me?"

Aqua crossed her arms. "Hey, don't look at me! I didn't get one of those!"

Levi glanced at her.

"You didn't think it was important."

Aqua gasped. "Rude!"

Kyouya leaned over Kazuma's shoulder.

"Most experienced parties memorize the basics."

He tapped the book.

"New adventurers either study this… or die and learn the hard way."

Kazuma slowly took the book from Wiz, holding it like a holy relic.

"…I love this book."

Wiz chuckled softly. "You can borrow it."

Kazuma froze.

"Borrow?"

Wiz nodded. "Just don't spill anything on it, summon anything from it, or attempt to sell it."

Kazuma clutched it to his chest.

"I swear on my life."

Levi raised an eyebrow.

"That oath might get tested faster than you think."

Aqua suddenly leaned in, eyes sparkling.

"Oooh! Does it list undead weaknesses?"

Wiz nodded. "Of course."

Aqua smirked. "Good. I'm great against undead."

Wiz smiled politely.

"Yes," she agreed.

"…against me too."

Aqua froze.

"…Wait."

Levi sighed.

"And this," he said, "is why we're doing basic training."

He turned back toward Axel.

"Next lesson," Levi continued,

"skills, classes, and why charging headfirst is how you become frog food."

Kazuma followed, book tucked under his arm, muttering,

"Isekai my ass… this is a survival game."

Aqua pointed dramatically at the sky.

"I demand hazard pay!"

Wiz laughed.

Kyouya shook his head.

And Levi smiled faintly.

Yeah.

The chaos had officially begun.

Levi glanced at Kazuma, then casually switched languages mid-stride.

"In case you're wondering," he said in English, voice calm and serious, "if you wanna survive here, don't treat this world like a power fantasy."

Kazuma blinked. "…Huh?"

Kyouya's posture straightened slightly. He understood immediately.

Levi continued, eyes forward.

"Treat it like DnD. Resource management. Party balance. Positioning. Prep. And consequences."

Kazuma frowned. "DnD… like, dice and stuff?"

"Exactly," Levi replied. "Except here, the dice are invisible, the DM is cruel, and death is permanent unless a goddess feels like helping."

Aqua, walking a few steps ahead, sneezed loudly.

Levi didn't even look at her.

"And one more thing," he added.

"This world has a hard cap. Level 20. No infinite scaling, no 'chosen one' curve."

Kyouya nodded. "Which means—"

"—every level matters," Levi finished.

"And bad builds stay bad."

Kazuma went quiet.

"…So you're saying I can't just grind slimes until I'm overpowered."

Levi finally looked at him.

"You can grind."

He smirked.

"But you'll still die if you're stupid."

Kazuma swallowed.

"…This is the least encouraging pep talk I've ever heard."

Kyouya chuckled. "It's also the most honest."

Levi switched back to the local language as they reached the guild doors.

"Alright," he said aloud. "Training, party roles, and why Aqua is not allowed near frogs."

Aqua spun around. "HEY!"

Kazuma sighed deeply.

"Yeah… I'm gonna die here, aren't I?"

Levi clapped him on the shoulder.

"Only if you ignore the rules."
