Chapter 15 - Party making

Levi sat sideways on one of the guild tables, one leg hanging off the edge, calmly sipping a glass of water while chaos buzzed around the hall. Wiz sat to his right, hands folded neatly, and Yunyun sat on his left, posture straight, trying very hard to look like a reliable party member.

Levi's gaze shifted to Aqua and Kazuma.

"Aqua," he said flatly, "you have healing, buffs, party tricks, holy magic, blessings, purification, resurrection, and divine utility."

Aqua puffed her chest out. "See? I told you I'm amazing!"

Levi raised a finger.

"On paper."

Aqua deflated slightly.

"You're an all-rounder," Levi continued, "which is what you'd expect from a divine entity. Support, sustain, emergency recovery, and undead annihilation. You are the kind of unit parties build around."

Wiz nodded politely. "He's not wrong."

Aqua beamed again. "See! Even the lich agrees!"

Wiz blinked. "…That was not a compliment."

Levi then turned to Kazuma.

"And you," he said, tone shifting completely, "are new."

Kazuma straightened. "I mean, yeah, but—"

"You have no combat skills," Levi cut in.

"No magic."

"No weapon proficiency."

"No stamina."

"No resistances."

"No survivability."

Kazuma opened his mouth.

"And," Levi added, "no money."

Kazuma closed his mouth.

"The only thing you do have," Levi finished, "is absurd luck."

Kazuma blinked. "That's… good, right?"

Levi tilted his head. "Luck is a multiplier, not a foundation."

Kyouya, leaning nearby, nodded. "It amplifies good decisions."

"And magnifies bad ones," Levi said. "Usually fatally."

Kazuma's shoulders slumped. "So I'm useless."

Yunyun immediately shook her head. "N-no! You can grow! Everyone starts somewhere!"

Levi pointed at her. "She's right. But growth requires direction."

He hopped off the table and crouched slightly so he was eye-level with Kazuma.

"This world rewards specialization. You can't be a hero at Level 1. You survive at Level 1."

Kazuma swallowed. "…So what do I do?"

Levi straightened and counted on his fingers.

"First: party role. You're not DPS. You're not tank. You're not support."

Aqua snorted. "He's not even bait."

Kazuma groaned. "Why are you like this?"

Levi ignored her.

"Second: skills. You need utility. Steal. Detection. Escape. Trap sense. Anything that keeps you alive."

Kazuma's eyes lit up slightly. "Steal sounds useful."

Levi smirked. "With your luck? Terrifyingly so."

Kyouya chuckled. "That skill alone could break encounters."

"Third," Levi continued, "never fight fair."

Kazuma frowned. "Isn't that dishonorable?"

Levi stared at him.

"…You chose her as your perk."

Aqua gasped. "HEY!"

Levi spread his hands. "Ambushes. Terrain. Dirty tricks. Retreats. Survival first, pride later."

Wiz smiled gently at Kazuma. "Think of it like chess, not a duel."

Kazuma exhaled slowly.

"…This really isn't the fantasy I imagined."

Levi clapped him on the shoulder again—lighter this time.

"No," he said, almost kindly. "But if you play it right?"

He glanced at Aqua, who was arguing with Yunyun about goddess snacks.

"You'll live long enough for the chaos to become funny."

Kazuma looked at Aqua. Then at the guild hall. Then at the monster board.

"…Okay," he said quietly. "Teach me how not to die."

Levi smiled.

"Good answer."

Kazuma looked at them a he spoke. "So, if this world is DnD what, are you guys level".

Levi shows his Adventure Card as it was he was Level 7

Yunyun said she was 6

Kyouya said he was 7

And Wiz was Still at 19

And Kazuma wanted too die

Kazuma stared.

He stared at the cards.

He stared at Wiz's Level 19.

He stared back at Levi's Level 7.

Then Yunyun's Level 6.

Then Kyouya's Level 7.

Then back to Wiz.

Then—

He slowly, carefully, lowered himself to his knees.

"…I want to go home."

Aqua immediately pointed at him. "You can't! I already died once today!"

Kazuma grabbed the dirt. "WHY AM I SURROUNDED BY ENDGAME RAID BOSSES?!"

Levi looked genuinely confused. "Endgame?"

Kyouya crossed his arms. "She's one level away from the cap."

Wiz smiled awkwardly and waved. "I don't really fight much anymore…"

Kazuma snapped his head toward her. "YOU'RE LEVEL NINETEEN AND YOU RUN A GAMBLING POTION SHOP?!"

Wiz flinched. "I-it was supposed to be a quiet retirement…"

Kazuma screamed internally.

Levi crouched in front of him again, calm, composed, utterly unfair.

"Relax," Levi said. "Levels aren't everything."

Kazuma looked up slowly. "You literally just showed me numbers that say otherwise."

Levi shrugged. "Experience matters more."

Kyouya added, "And team composition."

Yunyun nodded enthusiastically. "A-and practice!"

Aqua crossed her arms. "And divine talent."

Everyone looked at her.

Levi blinked. "…You're Level 1."

Aqua deflated. "I'm temporarily Level 1."

Kazuma slammed his forehead into the ground. "I picked the wrong protagonist route."

Levi stood and dusted himself off. "Look, Kazuma. Here's the important part."

He pointed at Kazuma's card.

"You survived being isekai'd into Konosuba."

Kazuma looked up weakly. "Is that supposed to mean something?"

Levi smiled—soft, knowing, and just a little cruel.

"It means your Luck stat is already doing its job."

Kazuma stared at his absurdly high Luck value.

"…So I'm a glass cannon?"

"No," Levi corrected. "You're a glass rogue."

Kyouya smirked. "With probability manipulation."

Wiz tilted her head. "That's actually terrifying."

Yunyun clapped her hands together. "W-we can train him! Slowly!"

Kazuma sat up. "Train… me?"

Levi nodded. "You'll start with support utility. Steal, detection, escape, terrain abuse."

Kazuma hesitated. "…No heroic sword?"

Levi, Kyouya, and Wiz spoke in perfect unison.

"No."

Kazuma sighed.

"…Okay. Fine. I'll be the sneaky guy."

Aqua leaned over. "Does that mean I'm the main character?"

Levi looked at her.

Then gently placed a hand on Kazuma's shoulder.

"I'm sorry," he said sincerely, "this is still your story."

Kazuma blinked.

Levi added, "It's just a hard mode comedy campaign."

Kazuma stared at the sky.

"…I should've stayed dead."

Wiz smiled softly. "Don't worry. You'll level up."

Yunyun nodded. "Y-yeah! Slowly, but surely!"

Aqua grinned. "And I'll carry you!"

Levi and Kyouya both spoke instantly.

"No, you won't."

Aqua pouted.

Levi turned back toward the guild board, eyes sharp now.

"Alright," he said. "Tomorrow, low-risk quests. Frog cleanup. Material gathering. Survival drills."

Kazuma groaned. "This is worse than tutorials."

Levi smirked.

"Welcome to Axel," he said. "Where even the tutorial can kill you."

Later that night.

Levi gave Aqua and Kazuma a pouch of 500 Eris. "Should, get you a good place to stay".

Kazuma stared at the pouch.

Then at Levi.

Then back at the pouch.

"…Five hundred Eris," Kazuma said slowly. "Just like that."

Levi laughed, light and casual. "Relax, it's pocket money."

Kazuma's soul visibly left his body.

"Pocket—" he choked, grabbing Aqua by the shoulders, "Aqua, did you hear that? He said pocket money."

Aqua squinted into the pouch, shook it, then frowned. "That's it? Only five hundred?"

Kazuma screamed. "ONLY?!"

Levi waved a hand dismissively. "I don't pay rent, don't buy food, and monsters keep throwing themselves at me. Money piles up."

Kazuma stared harder. "I hate you."

Levi smiled. "You'll get used to it. Or you'll steal it. Either way."

Kazuma paused. "…You know about my Steal skill already, don't you."

Levi's smile widened just a bit. "Luck-based abilities are obvious once you've seen enough isekai cases."

Kazuma slumped. "I knew it. I'm the utility gremlin."

Aqua crossed her arms smugly. "And I'm the goddess."

Levi looked at her. "Who is currently homeless."

Aqua gasped dramatically. "Levi! How could you say that to your goddess?!"

Kazuma muttered, "He's been doing it all day."

Levi turned serious for a moment. "Jokes aside—get an inn. Cheap but clean. Don't gamble tonight."

Kazuma blinked. "You're… giving advice?"

Levi nodded. "First night deaths are embarrassing."

Kyouya, who had been quietly drinking nearby, added without looking up, "Statistically common."

Kazuma paled. "…People die on the first night?"

Wiz smiled gently. "Usually to debt."

Kazuma clutched the pouch like it was holy. "I will protect you with my life."

Levi chuckled. "Good. Because tomorrow—"

Kazuma groaned preemptively.

"—you're joining us on basic quests."

Aqua pumped a fist. "Finally! Adventure!"

Levi raised a finger. "Support only."

Aqua froze. "What."

"You heal, buff, purify, and don't punch anything bigger than a chicken."

Aqua pouted. "You're so mean…"

Levi leaned closer, voice calm but firm. "Aqua. You are incredibly powerful."

She perked up instantly.

"…And incredibly irresponsible."

She deflated.

Kazuma nodded enthusiastically. "Yes. This. Listen to him."

Aqua pointed at Kazuma. "You chose me!"

"And I regret it every second," Kazuma shot back.

Levi straightened, stretching. "Get some rest. Tomorrow decides whether you survive Axel."

Kazuma hesitated. "And… you're not coming with us tonight?"

Levi shook his head. "I live outside town."

Aqua's eyes lit up. "Oh! Is it a noble mansion? With gold? And fountains?"

"…Underwater," Levi said.

Kazuma stared.

"…I quit."

Levi laughed again, turning away. "Sleep well, Kazuma Satou."

Kazuma blinked. "…How do you know my full name?"

Levi waved over his shoulder. "Luck tells stories."

As Levi disappeared into the night, Aqua watched him go, strangely quiet.

"…He's annoying," she muttered.

Kazuma nodded. "Yeah."

Aqua added softly, "But… kind."

Kazuma looked down at the pouch in his hand, then back at the road Levi vanished down.

"…Yeah," he admitted. "He really is."

And somewhere beneath the water, in a mansion that shouldn't exist, Levi Leviathan smiled—already certain that chaos had officially arrived in Axel.
