I step onto the sidewalk and softly close Cade's door. I wait for the lull in his kiss with Alicia. 'I think youur window is cracking. Might take a couple of months yet before it crumbles.'
That wipes the lovingness for Alicia off the edge of Cade's face. He quickly goes to inspect the left passenger window where I sat. I heft my backpack, heading through the lot to the schhool doors. Alicia hastens to catch up with me.
'You didn't have to do that,' she chides.
'Do what?' I ask her without so much as a glance.
'Distract him that way.'
I glance briefly backwards at Cade. It seems he is going to be inspecting that car until first bell. I huff. 'I think I saved you. Seemed for a bit there you were going to disappear down his throat. Or did you lose your tongue and were fishing for it in his mouth of all places?'
'Okay, that is bordering on gross, Claire,' Alicia hisses. 'Don't begrudge me Cade's presence.'
