The rain hadn't stopped.
Thunder rolled across the sky like a warning, but neither Ethan nor Alice heard it anymore. Inside the dim hotel room, lit only by the soft amber glow of the bedside lamp, time had become still.
Alice stood near the foot of the bed, her blouse half-unbuttoned, the fabric soaked and nearly translucent against her skin. Her eyes met Ethan's, wide and uncertain, but burning.
Ethan stood across from her, shirtless, drops of rain still trailing down his chest. His breathing was slow and controlled, but his hands at his sides were clenched tight, betraying the storm beneath his calm.
"You're staring," she whispered.
"I know," he murmured.
She looked down at herself, wet and flushed, her curves outlined by her damp clothes. She crossed her arms over her chest, not in shame, but because she was trembling.
"Do you want me to stop?" he asked.
She hesitated—only for a breath—before shaking her head. "No."
He stepped closer. Slowly. Carefully.
When he reached her, his hand moved up to her shoulder, fingers brushing against her soaked sleeve. "Then let me see you."
She nodded once, then lifted her arms slightly.
Ethan reached for the remaining buttons of her blouse, undoing them with deliberate care, like each one carried weight. When the last button slipped open, her blouse hung loose, falling from her shoulders. She stood in nothing but a lace bra and her skirt, shivering slightly, but not from the cold.
Ethan's hands skimmed her sides, trailing up to the clasp of her bra. He paused.
"Still okay?"
Her response was quiet, but steady. "I trust you."
The bra came undone with a soft click. She let it fall.
Ethan didn't devour her with his eyes. He simply looked—slowly, reverently—like he was memorizing her. Her breathing quickened, her chest rising and falling as heat flushed her skin.
He touched her waist first, then slid his hands up to her back, drawing her into him. Their skin met—bare, warm, electrified. When his lips found hers again, the kiss was different. No longer hesitant. No longer playful.
It was consuming.
Alice melted into him, her fingers digging into his shoulders as their bodies pressed together. He lifted her with ease, guiding her toward the bed. She fell back into the sheets, hair spilling across the pillow, chest heaving.
Ethan crawled over her slowly, bracing himself above her, letting his lips trail down her jaw, her neck, her collarbone. Her hands roamed across his back, over every line of muscle.
He kissed lower, over her chest, down her ribs. Her skirt was the last thing between them. She arched her hips slightly, silently asking. He pulled it down her legs, leaving her in thin black panties, now soaked from more than rain.
Ethan paused to admire her again, a low exhale escaping him.
"You…" he breathed. "You're everything I didn't know I needed."
Alice reached for his face, pulling him down for another kiss, deeper this time. Her legs wrapped around his waist.
There was no more hesitation.
He kissed down her body, trailing fire in his wake. She moaned softly, her hands gripping the sheets, her back arching with every touch.
The storm outside raged on.
But inside, they had found their own.
Every breath, every gasp, every whisper between them was a confession. Of years lost. Of feelings buried. Of tension finally breaking.
They moved together slowly at first, learning each other's rhythms, the language of skin on skin, of lips and fingers and soft, breathless cries. It was clumsy in places. Honest in others. But it was theirs.
He held her as if she might vanish.
She clung to him like he was the only thing holding her together.
Time lost meaning.
Minutes. Hours. The room blurred, save for the heat between them, the pounding of their hearts, and the way their bodies fit like they were always meant to find each other again.
When it was over, they lay tangled in the sheets, skin damp, breaths uneven.
Ethan rolled to his side, brushing a strand of hair from her face. Alice looked at him, her lips parted, eyes hazy but full of something clear.
"Was that… okay?" he asked quietly.
She laughed under her breath, reaching out to trace a finger along his jaw. "Okay? That was everything."
He pulled her closer, letting her rest her head against his chest. The silence was soft now, filled with the sound of rain, their breathing, and the warmth between them.
Alice whispered against his skin, "This changes everything, doesn't it?"
Ethan kissed her forehead.
"It already has."
