The first rays of sunlight peeked through the window blinds, painting soft golden streaks across the hotel room floor. Alice stirred under the sheets, blinking slowly as the warmth of morning kissed her skin. The moment she tried to sit up, a sharp ache surged through her body. She winced, falling back on the bed with a breathy gasp.
Her eyes trailed down to her bare arms, then her chest—and she noticed the faint scent of dried sweat and something else. Her face flushed deep crimson as memories of last night returned in vivid clarity. The passionate touches. The heated whispers. The overwhelming emotions. Her body was sore in places she never thought could be sore.
"...I can't believe that happened," she whispered, hiding half her face under the blanket, as if it would somehow erase the memory—or at least calm her racing heart.
She looked toward the other side of the bed, only to find it empty.
Her gaze drifted across the room, and there he was—the man responsible. The one she'd known since they were kids. The one she never thought she'd fall for this deeply. He was standing shirtless near the window, doing pushups without breaking a sweat, his toned back flexing with each repetition. The soft sounds of his breathing were steady, rhythmic. Controlled.
Alice gulped.
He looked up and noticed her awake. For a split second, an awkward silence hung between them. Both of them clearly remembered last night—but neither knew how to bring it up.
Ethan scratched the back of his head with a sheepish smile. "Morning. Sleep okay?"
"I-I guess... if you call passing out halfway through... sleeping," she mumbled, face burning red as she hugged the blanket tighter around her.
"Sorry about that," he said with a half-laugh, rubbing his neck, "I might've... gotten carried away. It was our first time, and I didn't exactly take it easy."
Alice looked away, her voice dropping to a whisper. "...You were wild."
He blinked.
Thanks to his enhanced hearing stats, he caught her words crystal clear, though she clearly didn't want him to. He decided not to bring it up.
Trying to change the topic, she cleared her throat. "You were... really good at it." She peeked at him from the blanket. "I mean—how? It was your first time too... right?"
His eyes widened slightly. "Of course! I'd never— I mean, yeah. It was my first time."
Alice narrowed her eyes playfully. "Then how were you so... skilled?"
He hesitated, but in his mind, he already had the answer. Dungeon combat training. His system's innate ability to analyze weak points, to read breathing, posture, and minute movements—it all translated too well into... other areas. He could sense tension in her muscles, the places that made her tremble, where her breath would hitch. All of it.
But he wasn't about to say that out loud.
"I don't know... maybe I'm just a natural?" he offered, scratching his cheek in embarrassment.
Alice looked at him with disbelief. "A natural, huh?"
He chuckled awkwardly. "And maybe... thanks to the size too?" he added under his breath.
She turned red again, throwing the pillow at him. "D-Don't say stuff like that!"
"I'm just being honest!"
"I didn't think it would even fit at first," she muttered, barely audible.
"What was that?"
"Nothing!"
They both laughed, breaking the tension in the room. It felt warm, silly, awkward, and comforting all at once.
Then Alice's phone buzzed loudly on the bedside table, its screen lighting up with dozens of messages. She grabbed it with effort and frowned.
"It's from my parents... They messaged me, like, fifteen times."
He tilted his head. "Guess they're worried?"
"Of course they are! I didn't go home... and I didn't text them... and—ugh, my battery's nearly dead."
She tried to sit up again but winced, clutching her waist.
"Still sore?"
"I wonder why," she said sarcastically, pouting.
"Want me to text them for you?"
She blinked at him, then gave him a soft smile. "Would you? Just say I stayed over because of the rain. And... my phone died."
"Alright," he said, taking her phone. "I'll keep it simple."
Before he could start typing, she looked at him with mischievous eyes. "Also, maybe add... that I'm with my boyfriend."
He froze mid-text and looked at her. "Boyfriend?"
Alice grinned. "What? We did the deed. You're mine now."
He let out a soft laugh, heart skipping at her words. "Yeah... you're right."
"Good," she said, smugly. "Now, as your girlfriend, I'm ordering you to carry me to the bathroom and help me clean up."
"Wait, what?"
"I can barely move! You did this to me! So, you have to help me."
He raised an eyebrow. "I think you're exaggerating."
She gave him the puppy-eyed look.
He groaned playfully. "Ugh... fine. But no funny business in the bathroom."
Alice winked. "No promises."
He picked her up gently in his arms. Her body nestled against his chest, arms wrapping around his neck.
"You know," she whispered near his ear, "you're too attractive for your own good."
He rolled his eyes. "And you're trouble."
They both chuckled as he carried her toward the bathroom. The rain outside had stopped, but inside the room, the storm between them was just beginning to settle.
