"You weren't satisfied with hurting her? You had to try and take advantage of her when she was vulnerable?" Selina's voice shook with fury and protectiveness like a big sister.
A sharp, annoyed gasp escaped Noah.
He hadn't expected his day to begin with an interrogation. Bubbling frustration twitched in his eyes as he realized he was trapped in yet another misunderstanding.
"Selina, what you saw... it wasn't what—"
"Stay away from her," Selina snapped.
She had seen too many women in Noah's hands to give him a chance. He never failed to go after different skirts as long as they were young and breathtaking, only to break their hearts and settle things with money.
She turned to Annabelle, her tone softening. "Anna, don't fall for a word he says. Okay?"
"I... I don't remember much after I fell into the pool," Annabelle's voice quivered as the hazy fragments of the night returned. "But I don't think he was hurting me. He saved me from drowning."
