Chapter 165 - Chapter 164: An Unfriendly Meeting

According to Ty Lee, this design was meant for the gate to automatically open on a specific date and time when sunlight reflected from the mirrors on the tower could shine onto the ruby.

But they didn't have the patience to wait.

"That's enough for now, let's go."

"Don't you want to go in and see?"

Seeing that Kahn had no intention of entering and was preparing to leave, Ty Lee asked in confusion.

Right after, she suggested:

"Actually, I don't think we necessarily have to wait for a specific time. We just need to use some tools to reflect light onto the ruby."

"Thank you for your suggestion, but I'll pass."

Kahn shook his head, looking around as he laughed:

"I don't know if you've noticed, but this temple is significantly cleaner than the other buildings we've seen along the way. It's not only well-preserved, but there are no plants climbing on it, not even weeds."

"Indeed!"

Kahn's words instantly enlightened Ty Lee. She had felt something was off about the temple, and now she knew why.

"This is completely unreasonable for a ruin that's been abandoned for a thousand years. The only explanation is that this temple has not only not been abandoned, but has been meticulously cared for by the local people."

Kahn continued, "This temple must have extraordinary significance to them, so barging in wouldn't be a good idea."

If this truly were a long-abandoned ruin, he wouldn't mind exploring it. Actually, he would've been eager.

But Kahn knew the Ancient Sun Warriors still lived in seclusion here, and he had come to ask them for a favor.

Antagonizing them right off the bat would be incredibly stupid.

Ty Lee blinked in confusion.

"Local people? Isn't this place supposed to be abandoned for ages? Who are you talking about?"

Kahn didn't answer. Instead, he turned toward another direction and raised his voice:

"Friend, we mean no harm. Why don't you come out?"

Ty Lee looked toward the place Kahn was staring at—and sure enough, a figure quietly stepped out from behind a stone pillar.

The stranger's clothing was unlike anything worn by the four nations today.

Red and gold, primitive yet ceremonial, with the upper body exposed and red paint decorating the face. He radiated a wild, ancient aura.

"How did you notice me? Why are you here?"

The man muttered, but before Kahn could reply—he suddenly attacked, launching a fireball straight at the two of them.

"Firebending?"

Kahn raised an eyebrow. He casually swiped his right hand, slicing the fireball in half as if it were nothing.

At the same time, the man charged toward them like a cheetah—however…

Bang!

Before he even got close, Ty Lee stepped forward and struck his arm and flank in one smooth motion.

His body instantly went limp, collapsing to the ground and sliding several meters.

He had confidence in his strength, but clearly underestimated the wrong pair.

In close combat, Ty Lee was second to none.

"What—what's going on?! Why can't I move?! What did you do to me?!"

The man panicked as he realized he couldn't move a single muscle.

Ty Lee planted her hands on her hips, glaring down at him.

"You bad guy! Why did you suddenly attack us?"

"I—"

He fell silent, refusing to answer. At that moment, Kahn walked over with a calm smile.

"If I'm not mistaken, you're a Sun Warrior, aren't you?"

"What?! He's a Sun Warrior?!"

Ty Lee gasped, and the man on the ground widened his eyes in shock.

Kahn smiled knowingly.

"May I speak with your leader?"

The Sun Warrior leader was a dignified middle-aged man.

Their clothing style was roughly the same, except his hat was more ornate—red and gold—and the paint on his face was thicker, covering the entire upper half.

The warrior Ty Lee had immobilized still hadn't recovered from her chi-blocking.

Supported by his companions, he reported the entire incident to the leader before slipping away in embarrassment.

The leader listened while observing Kahn and Ty Lee.

Behind him, at least sixty or seventy Sun Warriors stood on alert, subtly forming a half-circle around the two.

If all of them were Firebenders, things could get troublesome fast.

Seeing this, Ty Lee shifted into a guarded stance.

Sensing the enemy's aggression and their intent to harm Kahn, the little ones hiding in the shadows couldn't sit still anymore. They quickly fused into their combined form.

"You are not allowed to bully Kahn!"

Nike's massive dragon-bird form appeared out of thin air, wings spread, letting out a bone-shaking cry.

The Sun Warriors were stunned. In the next breath, they all dropped to their knees in fear—including the leader himself.

"Respected and great Spirit, please calm your anger!"

As the oldest Firebending tribe in existence, the Sun Warriors still preserved their ancient traditions—worshipping fire, the sun, fire dragons…

And spirits.

"Hmph! Scared now, aren't you!"

Ty Lee said smugly.

Nike's sudden appearance crushed the tension in an instant.

Kahn looked at his protective spirit and at the kneeling warriors, both relieved and faintly exasperated.

He patted Nike and said:

"Alright, Nike, don't scare them. I want to hear what they have to say first."

Then he said to the Sun Warriors:

"You can all get up."

Nike gave another threatening cry before folding his wings and moving behind Kahn, glaring at everyone. The Sun Warriors trembled under the pressure.

What shocked them even more was that a Spirit obeyed a human's words so casually—and protected him even more fiercely.

Hearing Kahn's instruction, the Sun Warriors exchanged glances, unsure what to do. Eventually, all of them looked toward their leader.

Finally, the leader stood up slowly and asked:

"Are you a Spirit Bender… or the Avatar?"

"I am a Spirit Bender," Kahn replied.

The leader nodded, his attitude immediately softening.

He gestured for his people to lower their guard before continuing:

"Young Spirit Bender, why have you come here?"
