Chapter 5 - Chapter 3: The Weight of Unremembered Tears

Meanwhile,Jayeon, a beautiful girl with ethereal eyes, lay sleeping, surrounded by an aura of serenity. Her skin glowed softly, illuminated by the gentle moonlight, and her delicate face shone with elegance, a masterpiece of creations.

The gentle rise and fall of her chest, the soft rustle of her silken hair, and the tranquil, angelic expression on her face all seemed to whisper a soothing melody, a lullaby of peace and serenity. But then, like a tempest, she woke up, clutching her chest in agony, as tears streamed down her face like autumn rain.

"Why this crushing sadness?" she whispered, her voice trembling with despair. Her heart, once strong and resilient, now faltered, weakened by inexplicable pains that pierced her very soul. She felt lost and forsaken, like a shipwrecked sailor on a desolate shore, with no refuge in sight. The weight of her sorrow was suffocating, crushing her beneath its relentless pressure.

She searched desperately for answers, her mind racing, her thoughts tumbling like turbulent waves. "Is it my heart that betrays me?" she implored, her words barely audible. "These tears, that fall like the autumn rain, relentless, unceasing?" She felt like she was drowning in a sea of despair, with no lifeline to cling to. Her soul was shattered, her heart broken, her spirit crushed.

She must confide in Father,or risk succumbing to this relentless affliction that threatened to consume her whole. She needed to go for a checkup otherwise she will die at this rate of illness.

Early that morning, Jayeon confided in her parents about the persistent heart pain she had been experiencing. Concerned, they suggested visiting the hospital together. Jayeon skipped school that day and accompanied her parents to the hospital for a checkup.

At the hospital, they met with cardiac specialist Doctor Stephen.

Jayeon explained her symptoms, and Doctor Stephen listened intently. "How long have you been experiencing this chest pain?" he asked. "Is it a couple of days, weeks, or months?"

Jayeon's response caught him off guard. "It's been years... about three and a half years." Doctor Stephen's eyes widened in surprise. "What!" he exclaimed. After a brief pause, he asked, "Was the pain mild, something you ignored for so long?" He leaned forward, his expression serious. "It's possible you have myocarditis."

Jayeon's eyes furrowed in concern. "Myocarditis?" she repeated. "Is it incurable?" Doctor Stephen reassured her, "It is curable, but given how long you've been experiencing symptoms, we'll need to run some tests. Let's start with an ECG to confirm the diagnosis, and then we can discuss treatment options."

Jayeon's parents exchanged worried glances, but Jayeon remained calm. Her thoughts were simple: "What's meant to happen will happen." She didn't want to alarm her parents, so she offered a reassuring smile. "You know, some things are just meant to be. If this is the end, then so be it."

Doctor Stephen observed Jayeon's calm demeanor and thought to himself, 'This girl is remarkably composed.' He turned to a nurse and instructed, "Please take Jayeon to the X-ray and ECG rooms for further testing."

After reviewing the test results, Doctor Stephen summoned Jayeon back to his office. He looked at her with a curious expression and asked, "Tell me, Jayeon, are you involved in a romantic relationship?"

Jayeon's eyes widened in confusion. "A romantic relationship? What do you mean?"

Doctor Stephen leaned forward, his voice taking on a gentle tone. "I mean, are you in love with someone?"

Jayeon shook her head emphatically. "No, I'm not. And I don't understand what you're getting at. What about my condition? What's causing this heart pain?"

Doctor Stephen smiled warmly. "That's the thing, Jayeon. You don't have any disease. Your test results are perfectly normal."

Jayeon's eyes narrowed, her brow furrowed in confusion. "But what about this pain? I've been experiencing it for three and a half years. It's like...it's like my heart is being torn apart." She paused, her voice cracking with emotion.

Doctor Stephen's expression turned compassionate. "As a doctor, I've seen patients who've experienced the pain of love. It's a pain that can't be described, a feeling of being torn apart. Your heart feels like it's been churned up, leaving you breathless and helpless. No disease can compare to the fear and uncertainty of love. Perhaps, Jayeon, your heart pain is a symptom of a different kind of affliction – one that can't be cured by medicine alone."

Jayeon's eyes sparkled with determination. "I didn't fall in love with anyone, Doctor. But I do remember having a list of boys who liked me. However, I never felt a spark... until I try to remember, that is. My memories are fragmented, but it's not that they're fragmented – it's more like I don't remember anything at all."

Doctor Stephen's curiosity was piqued. "What do you mean?"

Jayeon's voice took on a desperate tone. "The last thing I remember is deciding to give my friend a chance to be in a relationship with me. But the next thing I knew, I was waking up in the hospital five months later. Those five months are a complete blank. I've tried to remember, but it's like my brain is refusing to cooperate. All I feel is this overwhelming heartbreak, but I don't know why."

Doctor Stephen's eyes narrowed. "That's quite a mysterious gap in your memory. Can you tell me more about what happened during those five months?"

"It seems like those five months were just a routine part of my life." Jayeon explained. "The day before I reached the hospital means at Feb 15 I was at hospital, so at Feb14, I was hurt by a basketball and I fainted which erased my memory... I've tried to recall moments from that time, but they're all blank. If I had experienced anything during those five months, I should at least have some fragments of memory, but there's nothing. I don't remember anything. It's as if those five months never existed for me. But apparently, they did, because everyone around me seems to remember them just fine. They tell me about things I did, places I went, but it's all completely foreign to me. I feel like I've lost something incredibly important, something that could change everything. When people talk about what I did during that time, I should remember something, but I don't... not a single thing. I need to remember those five months. It feels like I've lost something incredibly important."

The doctor asked, "You hurt yourself with a basketball?" Jayeon nodded. "Didn't you feel any pain in your head from the injury?"

Jayeon thought for a moment before responding, "I didn't feel any physical pain, Doctor. It was just my heart that hurt. I remember that night vividly - the cold winter air, the tears streaming down my face... it was as if I didn't belong here anymore. My heart doesn't belong here... and I feel like my family and friends are hiding something from me, something I need to know."

Doctor Stephen's expression turned thoughtful. "I see. It's possible that your memories are repressed or hidden due to trauma or stress. We may need to explore other options to help you recover those lost memories."

Jayeon replied, "I didn't feel any physical pain... it was just my heart..." The doctor completed her sentence, "...that felt the pain, right?" Jayeon nodded in agreement.

She continued, "Doctor, I think I need to recall something I've forgotten. Can you help me?"

The doctor strongly agreed.

Jayeon then requested, "Could you please refer me to a specialist or provide information about a doctor I can consult? I'd like to schedule an appointment." The doctor recommended, "I have a psychologist friend who might be able to help you recover your lost memories."

Jayeon made another request, "One more thing, please - keep this confidential and don't mention it to my family. Let's schedule the appointment under the pretext of treating my myocarditis." The doctor raised an eyebrow, "You don't want your family to know? Do you think they're aware of something and don't want you to regain your memory?" Jayeon nodded in affirmation.

The doctor agreed to keep the matter confidential and exchanged numbers with Jayeon to arrange the appointment.
