Revised & Polished Version – Chapter 24
It was the weekend — Ling Mei's rescheduled shoot day.
Early that morning, Yan Yi had called to inform her she would personally come pick her up. Knowing her hand was still injured, Ling Mei instructed her to prepare a dress with matching gloves — something elegant that would conceal her wound. They would enter through the backstage entrance. She could not afford for anyone to notice her injury.
Yan Yi arrived promptly.
Ling Mei was already prepared. Without delay, she stepped into the car.
They soon arrived at Allure's Glam, entering discreetly through the back entrance. The moment she stepped inside, Ling Mei felt energized. She had three packed schedules ahead of her — there was no room for sluggishness.
Soon, she changed into her designated outfit: a sleeveless, spaghetti-strap, floor-length body-hugging gown with a daring low back. Matching gloves concealed her bandaged hand seamlessly.
She looked breathtaking. Seductive. Untouchable.
Allure's Glam was launching a new makeup line, and Ling Mei embodied the brand flawlessly. The shoot went smoothly, each shot captured at the perfect angle. Her professionalism radiated effortlessly.
By the time the session ended, they were already heading to the next company.
The day was hectic — exhausting, even — but deeply satisfying. She had successfully cleared her week's schedule.
After wrapping up their final appointment, they decided to relax at the amusement park.
As always, Ling Mei wore dark shades. Drawing attention in a crowded place was risky — especially now.
They had barely stepped inside when her phone rang.
An unknown number.
As she reached to answer it, the world around her suddenly tilted.
Her vision blurred.
Her head spun violently.
Her fingers instinctively grabbed Yan Yi's arm.
"Ling Mei?" Yan Yi turned in alarm.
But Ling Mei was already collapsing.
Her phone slipped from her grasp, hitting the ground. From the other end of the call, Yan Yi's panicked screams echoed faintly.
Ling Mei lost consciousness.
People began gathering.
Yan Yi's heart pounded. More attention would only create trouble. Struggling, she managed to support Ling Mei's weight and hurried toward the car, doing her best to conceal her face. She quickly adjusted Ling Mei's glasses to cover her features.
Her hands trembled as she drove.
Calling Ling Bao would only worry the old man. Calling President Feng? Ling Mei would skin her alive.
The hospital was the only option.
She sped toward the city's Central Hospital.
Ling Mei was immediately taken in.
After she was stabilized and moved into a private ward, Yan Yi finally allowed herself to breathe. She sank onto the couch, exhaling shakily.
Just as she began to calm down—
The door burst open.
Yan Yi shot to her feet, anger rising at the intrusion.
Who lacked this much basic manners—
Then she saw him.
Her stomach dropped.
"Where is she?" His cold voice sliced through the room.
Yan Yi felt her soul leave her body.
"Pre… President Feng…" she stammered.
Feng Zhi walked past her without another glance, his sharp eyes scanning the room until they landed on Ling Mei — lying pale and still on the bed.
He turned back toward Yan Yi.
"Who are you?"
She swallowed. "Her… manager…"
Before he could respond, two doctors rushed in, visibly tense.
"President Feng," they greeted shakily.
"Stabilize her. I'm taking her out," he ordered.
No one dared question him.
Within minutes, the IV line was removed.
Feng Zhi stepped forward and gently lifted Ling Mei into his arms in a bridal carry.
Yan Yi snapped out of her shock and hurried after him.
"Go home."
The command was calm — but absolute.
She froze mid-step.
And just like that, he walked out of the hospital, Ling Mei cradled carefully in his arms.
Too bad this little woman always found a way to land herself in trouble.
