"Boom!"

The Overheated Moltres bombarded the surface like a meteor striking the earth.

An explosion erupted across the sea, and soon steam rose as thick mist surged outward.

The location where Mega Greninja had been standing was evaporated into empty space, but Greninja itself was no longer there.

Mega Greninja, suspended in mid-air, felt a lingering sense of fear.

Just moments ago, it had nearly been struck by Moltres. Fortunately, it had activated Ally Switch quickly enough.

Otherwise, it would have become the first Pokémon under its master's command to be defeated by a divine bird.

It couldn't afford to lose face like that.

Glancing around, Greninja observed that Tyranitar's battle had ended, and Zeraora's battle was also nearing its conclusion.

Taking a deep breath, Mega Greninja's eyes sharpened with determination. It had to end this battle quickly.

"Screech!"

A piercing cry penetrated the mist as Moltres flapped its wings and soared back into the sky, activating Overheat once again.

The Overheat move was extremely powerful, though it had the negative effect of reducing the user's Special Attack stat. However, this drawback seemed nonexistent at the moment.

Moltres transformed into a massive firebird once more, charging toward Mega Greninja with furious intensity.

"Multiple Shadow Clones!"

Mega Greninja clasped its hands in front of its chest. Its body trembled slightly, and fifteen duplicates immediately appeared around it—sixteen Mega Greninjas in total.

Multiple Shadow Clone was a technique Chris had developed based on the ninjutsu from a certain ninja anime. Judging from the name, one might assume it was developed from the move Double Team.

But in reality, it wasn't Double Team at all.

The essence of Double Team was using speed to create illusory copies that had no physical presence or offensive capability.

The copies created by Greninja were real entities capable of dealing damage. In that sense, the move was more similar to Substitute.

Therefore, Multiple Shadow Clone was actually a technique developed based on Substitute.

As for how it was developed, Chris's concept was simple: have the Substitute use Substitute again.

Greninja's main body would use half of its stamina to create one Substitute, and that Substitute would use half of its own stamina to create the next Substitute.

As long as half of the remaining stamina was sufficient to create another Substitute, the process could continue indefinitely.

Fortunately, with the assistance of his aura powers and Mew's guidance, Greninja had made tremendous progress in controlling its life force.

It had taken a full two months to truly master Multiple Shadow Clones.

However, the current fifteen Substitutes were not Greninja's limit.

As for its true limit, Chris hadn't tested it fully. This was because the Bond Phenomenon-transformed Greninja benefited from the physical enhancements of Chris, its Trainer.

Chris's body contained power from the three deities of sky, earth, and ocean.

While not infinite, when the total number of Greninja's body and Substitutes reached one hundred twenty-eight, Chris still felt no strain. However, Greninja lacked sufficient mental capacity to control so many Substitutes simultaneously.

Currently, fifteen clones were the optimal number for Mega Greninja to manage effectively.

"Golden Water Spiral Aura Sphere!"

All sixteen Mega Greninjas gathered energy in their hands, then hurled the attacks at Moltres simultaneously.

In an instant, thirty-two Golden Water Spiral Aura Spheres flew through the air. The key point was that these thirty-two spheres were thrown from different directions, yet all of them locked onto Moltres, preparing to bombard it from thirty-two angles!

Moltres wanted to evade, but there was nowhere to go. Every possible escape route had been cut off. The thirty-two Golden Water Spiral Aura Spheres formed a cage-like formation, surrounding it completely.

Unless Moltres knew spatial moves like Teleport or Ally Switch, it would be unable to break through this massive barrier.

Furthermore, if Moltres was hit by even one Aura Sphere, it definitely wouldn't be able to escape the remaining thirty-one.

"Boom boom boom!!!"

Heavy bombardment!

Chris stood in the distance with his arms crossed, admiring this spectacular display.

This maneuver could only be described as "saturation bombardment."

He wondered if Moltres could withstand it.

"Screech!!!"

A cry came through the smoke of battle—the anguished wail of Moltres.

When the explosions finally ceased, what emerged was a pitiful sight: a large bird whose once-vibrant plumage had been blackened, whose crimson flames had vanished, and whose body emitted dark smoke as it plummeted from the sky toward the sea below.

Mega Greninja prepared to pursue, but Chris stopped it, having already received a notification from the system.

[Defeated Moltres LV92. Greninja gained 98,910 experience points.]

Chris retrieved the Luxury Ball he'd been holding ready and threw it casually.

Gardevoir teleported the Luxury Ball once more. After capturing Moltres, it teleported the ball back into Chris's hands.

Moltres's status panel unfolded before Chris.

[Moltres (Flying, Fire)] (Legendary Pokémon)

[Level: 92]

[Ability: Flame Body (When an opponent uses a contact move against a Pokémon with this Ability, there is a chance of inflicting a burn)]

[Individual Values: HP (27), Attack (25), Special Attack (31), Defense (31), Special Defense (31), Speed (31)]

[Moves: Gust, Ember, Safeguard, Wing Attack, Overheat, Agility, Ancient Power, Tailwind, Burn Up, Roost, Heat Wave, Flare Blitz, Sky Attack...]

[Held Item: Moltres's Treasure]

Moltres's stats weren't much different from Articuno's.

They were slightly better, actually—after all, this was a four-perfect-IV specimen, and it also possessed the Hidden Ability Flame Body. Even if it wasn't used for battling in the future, it could serve as a reliable incubator for eggs back home.

From now on, Pokémon born in Chris's facility would have another selling point to justify premium prices.

"This Pokémon was hatched by the Legendary Pokémon Moltres."

Whether the individual values were exceptional or not was almost secondary—the fact that it was incubated by a Legendary Pokémon completely elevated its prestige. How could anyone dare to sell such a Pokémon for less than a million Pokédollars?

Now for the held item.

[Zapdos's Treasure: Fire - The power and range of Fire-type moves are doubled, and the power and range of the next Fire-type move double again every minute.]

Just as expected.

Chris was very satisfied.

It wasn't as though he didn't have any Fire-type Pokémon.

Moltres's Treasure could be given to his Blaziken perfectly. Finally, it would no longer have to envy the other Pokémon for having Legendary items.
