The massive rocks bombarded the sea, creating enormous waves.

When the sphere finally struck the bottom with a thunderous "bang," the rocks shattered and the earth itself seemed to split apart.

The explosion was deafening.

Even Moltres and Zapdos, who were engaged in their own battles, couldn't help but have their attention drawn to it.

If the Planetary Devastation were merely a restraint technique, it would indeed be like a temporary imprisonment move. However, the true lethal effect lay in the moment the rock sphere struck the ground.

The earth collided with the rock sphere, and power transferred between the rock fragments. The instant the sphere collapsed, all that accumulated energy burst forth at once.

A massive crater formed in the sea. This crater encompassed the Shrine Islands, which meant that the Shrine Islands had now vanished into nothingness.

As the protagonist at the center of this explosion, Articuno stood at the point where all that power had erupted.

The battle between Tyranitar and Articuno had ended, as evidenced by the system notification that appeared before Chris.

[Defeated Articuno LV93. Tyranitar gained 102,980 experience points.]

The Legendary Pokémon Articuno had been at the same level as Chris's Z-Move "Planetary Devastation."

The result was completely within Chris's expectations.

Articuno, with its Ice and Flying typing, had a quadruple weakness to Rock-type attacks. After receiving a direct hit from the Planetary Devastation, it had been brought to the brink of unconsciousness only because the laws of the Pokémon world protected it from true death.

Otherwise, there likely wouldn't have been much left of its body. Looking down at the sea, Chris could see Articuno's form floating on the water's surface.

Chris retrieved a Luxury Ball, threw it downward, and was immediately teleported above Articuno by Gardevoir.

"Click!" The Luxury Ball touched Articuno's body and immediately drew it inside.

Without any resistance, Articuno was captured directly—not because it didn't want to struggle, but because it didn't even have the strength to struggle.

The next second, the Luxury Ball was teleported back into Chris's hands.

Articuno's status panel unfolded before Chris.

[Articuno (Flying, Ice)] (Legendary Pokémon)

[Level: 93]

[Ability: Pressure (Opposing Pokémon using moves will consume more stamina)]

[Individual Values: HP (31), Attack (25), Special Attack (31), Defense (27), Special Defense (23), Speed (31)]

[Moves: Gust, Mist, Powder Snow, Reflect, Ice Shard, Agility, Ancient Power, Tailwind, Freeze-Dry, Roost, Sheer Cold]

[Held Item: Articuno's Treasure]

The individual values of this Articuno were decent—only three perfect stats, but the other values had all reached over twenty, making it a fairly impressive Pokémon.

Chris didn't currently have any Ice-type Pokémon in development, so Articuno could fill that gap nicely.

However, the real prize was what it was carrying.

[Articuno's Treasure - The power and range of Ice-type moves are doubled, and the power and range of the next Ice-type move double again every minute.]

The effect was exactly the same as Zapdos's Treasure:—doubling the power and range of moves, then multiplying that enhancement every minute.

"I'll let Articuno hold onto it for now, then transfer it to a stronger Ice-type Pokémon once I catch one," Chris said, pocketing the Luxury Ball.

There weren't many Ice-type Pokémon worth training, and there was probably only one that would be more worthwhile than Articuno.

Chris raised his eyes and focused on Moltres.

Since Articuno had the Ice Treasure, then the Fire Treasure should be on you, right?

In the sky, the battle between Moltres and Mega Greninja was in full swing.

"Heat Wave!"

Moltres roared as it flapped its wings, releasing waves of high-temperature wind capable of melting solid iron.

An almost crimson gust swept through the air, dispersing the three "Golden Water Spiral Aura Spheres" that had been mere feet away from it.

Water vapor exploded in mid-air, and mist spread everywhere.

Mega Greninja burst out of the mist immediately, gripping a silver-white blade in each hand. Wreathed in flowing water and using Aqua Jet, it streaked across the sky like a spiraling blue comet.

In the blink of an eye, it reached Moltres.

Moltres reacted quite quickly, spinning in the air and responding with Wing Attack without hesitation. But just as its wings were about to make contact, the two blades in Mega Greninja's hands dissolved and vanished, and its hands clapped lightly together in front of its chest.

"Ally Switch!"

Mega Greninja's figure disappeared into thin air, replaced by one of the "Golden Water Spiral Aura Spheres."

At that moment, Moltres wanted to dodge, but it was too late.

"Boom!"

An explosion erupted.

Unlike ordinary explosions that produced black smoke, this one surrounded Moltres with water vapor.

This was a move specially prepared by Mega Greninja specifically for the Fire-type Pokémon Moltres.

In this version of the Golden Water Spiral Aura Sphere, the proportion of aura power had been reduced while the water power had been increased.

Compared to the previous Golden Water Spiral Aura Sphere, this one truly lived up to its name.

Or rather, it could be understood as "Water Style: Rasengan."

In mid-air, with nowhere to gain leverage, Mega Greninja fell downward—but soon another Mega Greninja appeared behind it. This was a Substitute!

The Substitute's hands immediately grabbed the original's feet, and using itself as the center point, it spun in the air. Before landing, it used the centrifugal force to hurl the original Mega Greninja back into the sky.

Although Mega Greninja couldn't fly, it had countless methods to keep itself airborne.

"Aqua Jet!"

The move activated once more, and the blue streamer pierced through the sky again.

"Screech!" Moltres's enraged cry filled the heavens.

In its thousand years of life, this was the first time it had been put in such a dire situation by a mere ordinary Pokémon! This was an offense and insult to its divine status!

"Screech! (All who offend the gods shall face punishment!)"

"Overheat!"

In its fury, Moltres transformed completely into a massive bird made of pure flames. It spread its wings and charged recklessly through the sky, heading straight for Mega Greninja.

A head-on confrontation wasn't Greninja's style, however.

So before the collision could occur, Greninja activated Ally Switch again, swapping positions with the Spiral Aura Sphere that the Substitute had just thrown.

But Moltres was prepared this time. At the moment it was about to collide with the Spiral Aura Sphere, it suddenly twisted and accelerated, combining Agility with the precision of Aerial Ace.

Even though the Aura Sphere had a homing effect, it couldn't track the fleeting form of the Legendary bird.

Moltres, leaving the Spiral Aura Sphere far behind, flew toward Greninja's main body above the sea.
