The entrance hall of Veyrhold's central structure was considerably more welcoming than Sheila remembered.
She stepped through the reinforced doorway, her boots meeting the smooth stone flooring beneath the steady illumination of several crystal lanterns. The fixtures had been dark when they first discovered the building, their translucent surfaces coated in years of accumulated dust. Now they glowed softly within their restored housings, illuminating the broad hall and the passageways branching away from it.
Along the walls, narrow lines of Myst moved through protected conduits, their faint luminescence occasionally visible beneath the older stonework. Somewhere within the building, the restored mechanisms produced a low, continuous hum.
Sheila still found the change remarkable.
