Chapter 16 - Day 2 (Last week of middle school): Leader of DEATHKNIGHTS

(Meanwhile, Zed reached home unaware of the Ancient Reaper's battle. He called Cyrus to tell

him about the mysterious book. The book contained ancient writings. Unable to comprehend it

himself, Zed sent a few pages to Cyrus using a tablet. Cyrus took a few seconds to glance at

each page, scanning each word, while also nodding before explaining their possible meanings

and implications. His conclusion was unsettling but also not confirmed: whatever had occurred

that night was no accident. It was something undeniably supernatural. Even then, he had to

visit the scene to confirm everything and understand more.)

(Cyrus, who often wore black robes, arrived at the scene of the fire. Fortunately, no soul had

been taken by the fire's fury. This was, without doubt, supernatural activity. Though the fire had passed, the danger remained. The book Zed obtained could only have been written by an Ancient. Yet, for reasons unknown, the author had not revealed themselves. That means something. Was the ancient being hunted, or was the Ancient trying to trick them? Ancients were regarded as enemies from other worlds, most of them sealed away to prevent their return. That means the burst of flames might have been part of a conflict or an awakening that came from elsewhere. The only clues that might put this whole puzzle together are the other books at the library. He

had already instructed Zed to visit after school so that he could learn about each of them.)

(After school, Zed went directly to the building marked DEATHKNIGHTS. It was his first

time here. The ground floor was alive with recruits willing to team up with the supernatural,

their voices rising as they sought to prove themselves. They shouted the motto:"DEATHKNIGHTS

FIGHT, DEATHKNIGHTS RISE~!" Zed laughed, but Cyrus silenced them with his own voice. "WE are the DEATHKNIGHTS! WE are known to DEATH but not known to LIFE. From beyond the GRAVE, the battle calls us to DIE! WE are called DEATHKNIGHTS! We Fight! WE Die! We Rise!" Cyrus shouted. The recruits were astonished. Zed and Cyrus then moved to the next floor,

where recruits were asked to show off their athletic abilities.)

(This floor was off limits to those who had failed the trials below, because a strong body meant little without a strong mind. Around the room, countless weapons lined the walls, some glinting, others aging.)

(Lastly, they got to the third floor, where the library awaited. Cyrus's companion stood

near the door, guarding it like an NPC. When Zed approached, he looked him up and down before

letting him pass. Zed knew little about him, but in truth, he was Cyrus's most trusted

 companion.)

(Upon entering the library, Zed finds himself a chair, and feeling sleepy, he hits his own

head with a book. He doesn't want to sleep, yet he has no desire to read either. Instead, he

decided to browse the books that have awesome paintings and pictures. All the while, Cyrus

sits at his own desk, reading the book Zed obtained yesterday. He reaches under his desk

and grabs a few more books that might be of the same importance as the same cover. The

emblems on each of the books appear different, though. He then walks over to Zed with a

 variety of them.)

"Zed. What exactly happened that night three years ago? After the party, I mean." Cyrus asked.

(Zed turned away, unable to come up with an answer. Ever since that incident, he stopped

being with friends, abandoning them, and losing confidence around people. He did not feel

he was the same as he had once been, always happy and smiling and full of energy. That

version was gone. All he could say now was a single line.)

"It is not something I want to talk about," Zed responded.

(Cyrus paused for a few seconds before speaking again. He reassures Zed that he has not

done anything wrong. At least not yet, but "The truth will be revealed one way or another."

he continued. "It is best if you reveal it now, so that you don't live with guilt the same

way I have." Cyrus added. One thing that makes Cyrus stand out to other people is how

trustworthy he is. His leadership skills stand out compared to those of many others. He is called the Leader of DEATHKNIGHTS for a reason. Unlike leaders across the world who craved power, Cyrus refused to hoard it. Instead, he shared it with his DEATHKNIGHTS, seeing them as equal

 partners in their mission.)
