Chapter 21 - The Gang Leader

He wore a black cloak to the fight so he wouldn't be identified. He took one good glance at Cyrus and laughed. He would defeat him once and for all. Cyrus wore black robes. This was a fight between two leaders, and today one would win, and the other would lose. Cyrus charged forward, tried to get a look at the gang leader's face, but all he saw was his smile, then his knife. It flashed forward, but Cyrus dodged it and threw a punch, one that the gang leader saw coming. He then threw out his own attack, a charge-up punch. Cyrus slows down his attack and circles the gang leader instead, and when he finds the chance to strike, he goes for it. He spins and throws out his hand as a distraction, catches the gang leader off guard, then strikes him on the leg. The gang leader tumbles back and groans.

He would not lose. No. Not like this. The weapon panel around them flared to life, and a variety of weapons appeared. The gang leader obtained the most powerful ones and attacked Cyrus with them. It was all or nothing. Cyrus merely smirks, and his cards deflected all the weapons back. One by one, they fell to the ground surrounding the gang leader. Feeling hopeless, the gang leader tried to pick one up, but they disappeared from play. He had no control over his abilities, and it made him angry. He then charged at Cyrus with all his might, and Cyrus responded with a punch to his stomach. The gang leader fell to the ground and coughed. At this point, his identity was revealed to everyone. He tried to get back up, but his body wouldn't listen. So, this is what it must have felt like to be helpless.

"I lose," he stated.

His fellow gang members charged forward to attack Cyrus, but the gang leader told them to back away. They were completely outmatched, and the only way for them to win was to try again another day. He backed away from Cyrus to let him continue fighting. Cyrus's next opponent was an armored man with a halberd. Before Cyrus could make a move, IT thrust forward, knocking Cyrus back. The gang leader watched with anticipation. It wasn't that the attack was powerful; it had enough impact to destroy all of Cyrus's remaining cards.

"Who could that be?" one of the gang members asked.

"I don't know, but he is powerful."

Eventually, the armored man with the halberd won the tournament. The gang leader approached him.

"Who are you? I saw that you are competing, but none of what I saw out there seemed realistic."

The armored man with the halberd doesn't say a word; instead walks away. Hanging from his neck was a glowing stone. There was the temptation to follow him and learn more, but he knew that he was risking his life. He told his fellow gang members that they were heading back home for the time being. They would discuss their next approach against the DEATHKNIGHTS.

From a distance, Mehatto stood watching the gang. He knew they were dangerous, so he decided to keep watch. Although he and Cyrus are indeed rivals, there were more problems outside their rivalry, and he had a job to protect people. Only when the gang left did Mehatto turn to leave. He wanted to make sure that Cyrus was doing his job right because if he did not, then Mehatto would be the one to undo his wrongs. While Cyrus was often busy as a teacher, plus doing important things as the leader of the DEATHKNIGHTS, Mehatto was free to do whatever he wanted, and that included joining this tournament. The next tournament wasn't till next month, so he had plenty of time to train, minus the time that he spent training young ninjas. Not only was Mehatto a ninja himself, but he was also a masterclass shinobi, and today he tried to prove it. Unfortunately, he couldn't, and this loss meant that he needed to train extra. Sometimes he thinks about what winning usually takes, and whether winning a tournament much like this one was really worth it. What pushes a person to try to win something?
