Chapter 111 - Chapter 111 Shinto

Somewhere in the realm that borders Netherworld and Mortal Realm.

"Come on! Why are we just observing when he had already taken over Kyoto with that Nine-Tailed Youkai siding with him, at this rate, won't he takes over the whole Japan?! We had already given away Kuoh to those scummy devils, and now this!" Susanoo, God of Storm, shouted in agitation. He was surrounded by flicker of lightning as if his emotions had warped the area around him. To him, it was an insulted when a powerful individual does as they pleased in Shinto Domain, meaning the entirety of Japan. They had cooperated with some other youkai up until now so that normal people would be kept in the dark, which allowed them to live peacefully in their own small region to themselves. Even Yasaka was part of that deal, her people would worship Shinto Gods and in turns, these Gods protected them.

"'Taken over Kyoto' is a bit of a stretch, he had merely formed a deep relationship with the Kyoto's Leader. Do not let your rage blind you of reason." Amaterasu, the Sun Goddess replied with a frown at her brother's prejudice words. The Shinto Gods were alarmed at first when they learned the existence of Igarashi Kousuke, an individual with bottomless strength. He was just a normal human until a year ago, vanished from Earth by some mysterious means that leaves no trace behind. Then upon his returns, he had changed dramatically, and even gained strength that could topple the Gods. They had heard rumors from the Greek that a week or so ago, he had spar with Ares, the Greek's God of War and won without a scratch on him.

Of course some of them finds that hard to believes, few even denied it outright, that included Susanoo. For a human to challenge God, much less one known as God of War, should've stood no chance at all. Gods doesn't just gives anyone the title of War for fancies like humans does, it holds authority and powers to dominate over War itself. Though of course there used to be legendary heroes that stood on par with Subsidiaries Gods, but none have ever challenge the God of War. Even the infamous Monkey King, Sun Wukong was once feared amongst the Gods for his overwhelming physical strength and his magical staff that can change size at will, but he was eventually subdued by Buddha and turned to a new leaf, becoming one of the Buddhist Gods.

"That's right, we shouldn't jump to the conclusion so hastily. The last time that happens, countless innocent maidens was sacrificed to the Orochi," Izanami, the Goddess of Netherworld warned her children sternly with a neutral expression on her face, reminding them the sore memory that none could forget to this day. Orochi was once a companion to Susanoo, a pet he adopted while traveling the world amongst the men. They developed bond so strong akin to that of a father and child, until tragic struck.

Susanoo, in his drunken state had burned an entire village down to the crisp when he found out that a few of their children had thrown stones at Orochi, mistaking him as some kind of wild animal while the latter was enjoying swimming in the lake amongst the fish. This act of madness was observed by Orochi, and a crack was formed between them since then. As they continued their journey, Orochi grew even more disgusted at who he once respected as father, shamelessly accepted the donations for 'subduing' the threat that he himself caused. Somewhere along the line, Orochi disappeared and returns as the legendary eight-headed and eight-tailed serpent in his madness to destroy the world.

Numerous shrine maidens sacrificed themselves with the sole purpose of bringing the Snake his sanity, and only then did Susanoo severed all the eight heads for good. The legend written down in history was however revised to improved Shinto Gods images to the common people. It was a stain that they tried to hides, but even if the humans had forgotten, the same couldn't be said to them and the rest of the pantheons.

"That was one mistake... and I was drunk!" Susanoo said defensively. It happened a long time ago, yet his incident was always brought to the table even if the topic wasn't about him, it felt unfair to him. He was saddened by the death of Orochi at his own hands, but the Storm God had never considered his drunken act of punishing the villagers to be evil. There was no wrong or right, it was a divine judgment.

"A severe mistake," Tsukuyomi corrected his half-wit brother. "Must I remind you that incident had negative impact on Shinto images and it took us hundred of years to improve? Losing the shrine maidens and the innocent villagers wasn't the only things that happens in that tragedy."

"That's... because it was a divine judgement, it wasn't something any God can control so easily," Susanoo muttered with gritted teeth. When a God decreed the punishment, nothing can stop it, not even themselves. As he digs himself even further, Tsukuyomi could only shook his head in disappointment. Despite wielding the divine thunder like Zeus, his brother didn't inherit the superior intellect from their Godmother, Izanami.

"Putting that matter aside, I don't think making a move on that human is a wise choice," Inari, the Fertility Goddess said with half-opened eyes. "He had shown himself to be able to stand on toe with Ares, at least that much deserves some kind of respect, no? Furthermore, he hadn't harmed any japanese citizens, in fact, he even stopped any malicious party hidden behind the scene from making any moves after beating that White Dragon Emperor, and he was said to be the strongest Divine Dividing User in the history, like he was a child."

"Aww, but can I spar with him though? It's not fair that Ares could do it," Hachiman, the legendary Warrior God asked. Just like the Greek God of War, he too seek a worthy foe to quench his thirst for battle. He couldn't just go to another pantheon and start a fight with them, despite his good intention, that would only cause misunderstand that could very well spiral into another Great War.

Listening to the rest of Shinto Gods giving their opinions, Susanoo feels like he was the only sane God amongst them. How could they considered a human on the same level as them? That's blasphemy to the highest degree! Gods are meant to rule and lead humanity, that was their god-given right. If this human were to be left alone, he might one day usurp their throne. Susanoo can't let that happen, he has to do something!

Even if it meant siding with other Gods with mutual goals, with that thought crossing his mind, Susanoo discreetly took his leave and heads to the west, the Southern Europe.
