The car had just stopped at the edge of the desert, and before everyone had a chance to get out, Charles saw something yellow moving on a distant sand dune. His heart leaped with excitement—this was the first time he had seen a living creature on the Earth's surface.
Charles patted Lily on the back. "Time to get to work. Have your mouse friends check if there's anything dangerous in the sand."
"Got it!" Lily nodded enthusiastically, quickly jumped onto the car window, and started squeaking.
Soon, a small group of colorful mice leaped from the car and dashed toward the nearby desert. They made a quick circuit before rushing back to Lily to report their findings.
"Mr. Charles, there's no threat at all in this big sandbox! There are no other smells either, just the smell of dirt."
By now, the distant creature was even smaller, almost invisible to the naked eye.
