"Though World Crown island has few inhabitants, there are also some nobles," Anna said as she walked with her maid along the mushroom-strewn street. "They live on top of the giant mushroom, managing all the farmers below. They collect all the taxes as well."
"They're making money off the lives of these farmers? They're truly corrupt," the maid said.
Anna nodded in agreement. "You're right. These people are truly wicked. A place this profitable should be mine."
With her servant in tow, Anna continued along the main road.
The area below the World Crown wasn't all farmland. Low-slung houses, the homes of the farmers, were scattered between the fields.
Anna walked into one and found it empty, aside from some mushrooms growing in the corners. Only the faint sound of coughing from within the houses proved this was not a village of the dead.
Anna passed through the village and continued toward the end of the street.
