Charles had thought it would be a challenge for them to get over the giant wall. However, after a brief search, they found numerous small doors set into its base. It seemed this barrier wasn't meant to defend against humans.
With a gentle wave of his hand, Charles led the group into the fortress-like island. As soon as they passed through the tunnel in the thick wall, he was stunned by the sight that lay before him.
If he hadn't just been at sea, he might have believed he had returned to the Earth's surface. Inside the walls stood rows of neatly arranged modern buildings. Below the towering high-rises were fast-food restaurants, cellphone stores, and clothing shops—every kind of store imaginable.
It was a city—a modern city, completely devoid of people. Time had left no mark on the buildings. Everything was spotlessly clean, without a speck of dust on the ground.
