Upon hearing Charles, the other crew members glanced around at their companions, only to find that the man wrapped in bandages—their first mate—was truly gone. A trace of fear appeared on everyone's face. Had their comrade just vanished for no reason?
"When was the last time anyone saw him?" Charles asked the crew, suppressing the unease in his heart.
"I did," a bewildered James raised his hand. "The first mate was right in front of me five minutes ago."
"That's not right. I don't think I've seen him for at least ten minutes," Lily said, poking her head out.
The crew's accounts were inconsistent, but they could roughly determine that their comrade had disappeared sometime within the last ten or so minutes.
Looking at the fog enveloping them, Charles turned to Audric with a frown. "Turn into a bat and follow the arrows I carved. See if the first mate got lost somewhere else."
