These appeared to be the island's natives. Charles had read in the library that the inhabitants of wild islands were not all malicious; some could be communicated with, or even traded with.
"We mean no harm. Can you let us out?" Charles said slowly in the Abyss-Sea language.
The nosewalkers remained motionless, as if they did not understand, standing in the distance like lifeless objects.
Staring at the bizarre scene, Charles waved a hand behind him, signaling for the others to retreat. Since they didn't seem to understand, it was best to leave for now.
CLICK. The moment Charles lifted his foot, all the nosewalkers twitched their noses and leaped forward, black claws extending from their dry, shriveled bodies.
"Attack!"
A volley of gunfire erupted instantly. The nosewalkers were hit and fell into the water, but their numbers seemed endless as they swarmed forward like a tide.
