If one looked closely, the scene itself was enough to make even the bravest hesitate.
Standing at the doorway was a maid with black buttons sewn where her eyes should have been, her stitched lips stretched into a smile that never reached warmth. Beside her loomed a giant corpse in a butler's uniform, his gloomy eyes sunken deep into his face, heavy eyebags darker than the eternal night above them. Every time he blinked, faint cracking sounds echoed, as though his skin were barely holding together.
Above them, ominous dark blue thunderclouds endlessly circled the mansion. Lightning flashed again and again, illuminating the two figures in sharp white light. Their shadows stretched unnaturally across the stone floor, twisting and writhing like souls screaming to break free from their bodies.
Leonel swayed on his feet. He was about to faint again.
