"Agh! A-are they still chasing us?" Leonel asked.
He could have checked it himself. In fact, he was in the perfect position to do so—especially since Isolde's princess carry was surprisingly steady—but he didn't dare. Both his hands were tightly pressed over his eyes as if the monsters would magically disappear if he couldn't see them.
Leonel wasn't usually clumsy. He had decent balance, decent reflexes, and decent courage.
But right now?
Fear had turned his legs into useless jelly.
He stumbled every few steps, nearly tripping over roots and uneven ground. After watching him almost face-plant for the fifth time, Isolde finally sighed and scooped him up without warning.
Just like that, the short, terrified dwarf was carried bridal-style.
Isolde smirked when she heard his question.
"Yes," she said seriously, holding back her laughter. "And they're closing the gap."
"WaAaH!" Leonel shrieked. "I can't look! Don't let them touch me!"
