The next day, Leonel pestered Ren over the phone, his voice loud and relentless, asking about his time alone with Evie.
"So?" Leonel pressed. "What happened?"
"Nothing happened," Ren replied flatly.
He didn't know why he was annoyed. Maybe it was Leonel's nonstop questions. Or maybe it was the fact that Evie logged out the very moment she obtained Meriyaah's cloak.
She didn't even wait a second.
Not a word. Not a pause.
Just gone.
She didn't have to make it so obvious that she didn't want to spend even a single moment with him after getting what she wanted.
"Are you sure nothing happened?" Leonel asked again. Ren could hear him take a deep breath on the other end. "Because if that's the case, then all those hours I spent entertaining Saya were completely wasted."
Ren frowned. "Entertaining her?"
"Yes," Leonel said dramatically. "I made all sorts of excuses just so she wouldn't bother you. I feel like a hero who went through hell for nothing."
Ren didn't reply right away.
