Ashido stood at the entrance of the cave, his eyes scanning the horizon of the Menos Forest. He turned to Grayson, a hint of pride in his usually stoic expression.
"You've improved greatly in such a short time," Ashido said, his voice carrying a note of admiration. "Your growth is... impressive. I believe you're ready to make the journey to the exit."
Grayson felt a surge of pride at Ashido's words. Coming from the battle-hardened warrior, it was high praise indeed. "Thank you, Ashido-san. I couldn't have done it without your guidance."
Ashido nodded, a ghost of a smile on his scarred face. "Remember, the path ahead is treacherous. Stay alert, and trust in the skills you've honed here."
With that, the two Soul Reapers set out into the depths of the Menos Forest. The familiar oppressive atmosphere pressed down on them, but Grayson found it easier to bear now. His senses, sharpened by weeks of intense training, picked up on the subtle movements and spiritual pressures around them.
As they ventured deeper, they encountered several groups of Hollows. Grayson moved in sync with Ashido, their blades flashing in the dim light as they cut down their foes. Each battle was a testament to Grayson's growth, his movements more assured, his attacks more precise.
*You have been awarded 500 EXP* The system chimed as Grayson struck down the Hollows, causing him to smile.
Hours passed as they delved further into the heart of the forest, somehow not encountering any more Hollows for the time being. The quartz trees loomed ever larger, their branches intertwining to block out what little light filtered down from above. Suddenly, Ashido held up a hand, signalling Grayson to stop.
"Do you sense that?" Ashido whispered, his eyes narrowing.
Grayson extended his spiritual senses, probing the darkness around them. Then he felt it – several powerful spiritual pressures, much much stronger than anything else around the area. His blood ran cold as realization dawned.
"Adjuchas," he breathed.
No sooner had the word left his lips than the forest erupted into chaos. Five figures burst from the shadows, their masks gleaming with malevolent intelligence. These were no mere Hollows – they were Adjuchas, evolved beings of terrifying power.
"Stay close!" Ashido shouted, his Zanpakutō already singing through the air as he engaged the nearest Adjuchas, not wasting any time in pressing on the attack.
The Hollows growled at the sight of Ashido, knowing who he was.
"Kill that bastard Ashido!" The leader shouted, commanding the others.
Grayson found himself facing off against two of the creatures. One resembled a monstrous spider, its multiple legs ending in wickedly sharp points. The other was more humanoid, with blade-like protrusions jutting from its arms.
Drawing on all his training, Grayson moved with fluid grace, dodging the spider-like Adjuchas' stabbing legs while parrying the bladed arms of the other. But he quickly realized he was outmatched. These creatures were on a whole different level from the Hollows he'd faced before.
Grayson's senses flashed, warning him of the danger as he avoided another swipe, being sent flying back through the air as he was only just able to block another.
"Shit!" Grayson yelled out, seeing the display of the Hollows stats above their heads, already seeing they were stronger than him in his base form.
"I've got no choice..."
"Distort, Jūryoku no Megami!" Grayson called out, releasing his Shikai and causing his spiritual pressure to burst to life in a black and purple colour.
But as the familiar weight of his gravity-manipulating Zanpakutō settled in his hands, something felt... off. The surge of power he usually felt was absent, replaced by a strange emptiness. Grayson's eyes widened in shock as he realized he couldn't feel his connection to his sword as he usually did.
"What's happening?" he muttered, narrowly dodging a strike from the bladed Adjuchas almost taken out due to his distraction.
Grayson swung his Zanpakutō, attempting to increase the gravity around his opponents, but nothing happened. It was as if his sword had become nothing more than a regular blade. Panic began to set in as he parried and dodged, barely keeping up with the relentless assault of the two Adjuchas.
"Ashido!" Grayson called out, desperation creeping into his voice. But his mentor was fully engaged with his own opponents, unable to come to his aid, locking in a battle against two of the other Hollows.
The spider-like Adjuchas lunged forward, its sharp legs aiming for Grayson's chest. He brought up his Zanpakutō to block, but without his gravity powers to reinforce his defence, he knew it wouldn't be enough. Time seemed to slow as Grayson watched the deadly appendage inch closer, unable to do anything to stop it.
Just as the Adjuchas was about to make contact, the world around Grayson blurred and faded. The forest, the Hollows, even Ashido disappeared, replaced by a vast, starry expanse. Grayson found himself standing on what appeared to be a floating island of rock, suspended in an endless void next to a black hole.
"Well, well. Look who finally decided to pay me a visit." The familiar voice said.
Grayson spun around to find himself face-to-face with a striking woman. Her long, dark hair seemed to float around her as if gravity didn't apply, and her eyes sparkled with the light of distant stars. She wore flowing robes that shimmered with celestial patterns. This was Jūryoku no Megami, the spirit of his Zanpakutō.
"It's been a while," she said, her voice echoing strangely in the void. There was a teasing lilt to her words, and her smile held a hint of mischief, crossing her legs over while she sat on her throne, seeming to do it on purpose catching Grayson's attention.
Before Grayson could respond, she was suddenly in front of him, pinching his ear hard enough to make him yelp, moving faster than he could see.
"Ow! What was that for?" he protested feeling the pain as she dragged him across the floor by his ear.
"That," she said, her tone suddenly stern, "was for losing to that low-level Hollow. How dare you disgrace us like that? You've been using my power all wrong, you fool!"
Grayson rubbed his sore ear, confusion evident on his face. "What do you mean? I've been training hard, getting stronger- but just now, I couldn't use your power at all. What's going on?"
"Oh, sweet child," Jūryoku no Megami interrupted, her demeanour softening. She glided closer, her presence radiating an otherworldly charm. "You've been thinking of my power as just a force that pulls things down. But it's so much more than that."
She leaned in close, her lips nearly brushing his ear as she whispered, "Gravity is the fabric that binds the universe together. It's not just about increasing or decreasing weight. It's about manipulating the very forces that keep reality in check."
Grayson's eyes widened as understanding began to dawn. "You mean-"
"I mean," she said, pulling back with a sly smile, "that you need to think bigger. Don't just increase the gravity around your enemies. Twist it. Bend it. Use it to distort space itself."
The starry void around them began to warp and twist, demonstrating her words. Grayson watched in awe as entire galaxies seemed to bend to Jūryoku no Megami's will.
"Remember," she said, her form beginning to fade as the real world started to bleed back in, "you are the god of gravity. The universe itself bends to your will. Now go show those Adjuchas what true power looks like. I will fight with you, and together we will be unstoppable."
Grayson blinked, and suddenly he was back in the Menos Forest, mere seconds having passed in the real world. The spider-like Adjuchas' attack was still incoming, but now, Grayson saw everything differently. He could feel the power of Jūryoku no Megami coursing through him in a way he never had before, feeling his spiritual pressure burst to life with a flood of power flowing through him, like a damn had suddenly burst open.
With a newfound determination, Grayson faced the Adjuchas once more. This time, he didn't just try to increase the gravity around them. He twisted it, creating localized fields of distorted space that threw off their movements and left them vulnerable.
The spider-like Adjuchas found its legs tangled in a web of warped gravity, while the bladed one's attacks went wide as the very space around it bent and flexed.
Grayson watched as in amazement as he had discovered the true powers of his Shikai's ability.
*Quest complete, unlock your Shikai's true power.* The system suddenly said, giving Grayson another boost of EXP.
Ashido, having dispatched his own opponent, watched in amazement as Grayson moved with a grace and power he hadn't seen before. The young Soul Reaper's Zanpakutō danced through the air, each strike amplified by gravitational forces as he could freely change the weight of his attacks at will, bending space around them as one of the Hollows thought it had avoided the attack, only for a crushing blow to smash it down into the ground as if the attack had made contact.
Grayson could feel his power overflowing, unsure of the reason deciding to ask his system on a mental note while he watched the two Hollows cower before him.
*Explanation.* The system said, responding to his question.
*Upon gaining more control over your Shikai abilities, when you enter Shikai now you also gain a 2x amplifier to your base stats, increasing all of your abilities.* The system explained.
Grayson was shocked, but it made sense, knowing that a Soul Reapers Shikai was something that could take tens of if not hundreds of years to achieve for some, granting them incredible power as they fought with their Zanpakutō's power alongside their own.
"I guess it's time to finish this then," Grayson said as his eyes glowed with the power of his spiritual pressure, as he got ready to unleash a new attack that his Zanpakutō had whispered into his ear.
"Kurai Fukin (Dark Pull)" Grayson said as he pointed his Zanpakutō toward the Hollow's.
Suddenly both of the Hollows were lifted off of their feet before they flew toward Grayson uncontrollably as if a force was pulling them toward him against their will.
"Now, Kujiku! (Crush)" Grayson yelled, increasing the gravity around him, causing both of the Hollows to hit the ground, pinned down by such a powerful force that they were unable to move.
With that Grayson delivered the killing blow to each of the Hollows, making it look easy. The Adjuchas lay defeated, their forms dissolving into spirit particles. Grayson stood exhilarated by the newfound mastery of his powers.
Ashido approached, an approving look in his eyes. "It seems you've had a breakthrough," he observed. "Your power... it's on a different level now."
Grayson nodded, still processing the profound change in his understanding of his abilities. "I think I'm finally starting to grasp the true nature of my Zanpakutō," he said, knowing this was just the start.
Only the leader of the Adjuchas was left now, cowering as the other had been killed before him.
"W-Why you, I won't let you get away with this!" The creature yelled out as it took a few steps back, getting ready to make a run for it.
However, a large form slammed into the ground behind it, causing the Adjuchas to hit the chest of the larger Hollow that had appeared.
"Where do you think you are going?" The Hollow asked before it thrust one of the blades on its arm through the chest of the other, wearing a demonic smirk on its mask.
Grayson and Ashido watched in surprise before Grayson recognized the Hollow as the one he was fated to fight.
"You..." Grayson said, also feeling his Zanpakutō pulsing at the second chance to fight the monster.
Suddenly the Hollow opened its jaws and took a bite from the others head, eating it in almost one go before it tossed its corpse to the side, gaining a sudden burst of spiritual pressure.
"I've finally found you... Little Soul Reaper!"
