The door clicked shut, and the sudden quiet in the study felt heavy. I stayed by the window, watching the grey light fade across the grounds of Thornfield.
I looked down at the empty space where Vivienne had been standing just moments ago. She had looked small against the large wooden bookshelves, but her voice had filled the entire room. It still rang in my ears.
