Sloane POV
"Since you won your legal battle, the ban is officially lifted," Caelan said, standing by the door of the dressing room. He didn't look at me, but his voice was tight. "You can enter the Obsidian building whenever you want. But tonight, we are invited to a cultural event."
"I know," I said, fixing my hair in the mirror. "Felix's briefing mentioned it. The Aldenmere Cultural Foundation reception."
"It is a charity event, Vivienne," he said, finally looking up. His eyes snapped to mine, then dropped down my outfit. "We are going for a cultural event, not the Met Gala."
I turned around slowly, letting him see the full picture. I had chosen the deep burgundy dress. It was structured, elegant, and cut completely open at the back with a sharp neckline. Mrs. Albright had paused for a full second when she saw it earlier, though she had managed to call it 'elegant' before she left.
I gave Caelan a small, dry smile and shrugged. "Not your business."
