Chapter 18 - Chapter 16: The Real Game Begins

Angelo POV

The phone rang at exactly 5:17 in the morning.

I frowned.

Nobody called me at this hour unless something was wrong.

Very wrong.

I picked up immediately.

"Sir, we found him."

I sat upright.

My heart immediately sank.

"Found who?"

The answer came instantly.

"Kaizer Watson."

For a second, I froze.

Then I was already grabbing my keys.

"Send me the location."

Thirty minutes later.

Aries and I arrived at an abandoned warehouse near Manila.

Security was already surrounding the area.

The atmosphere felt wrong.

Heavy.

Cold.

Like something terrible had happened.

The moment I stepped inside, I understood why.

Kaizer Watson was dead.

The man everyone feared.

The man nobody could touch.

Gone.

Even Aries looked shocked.

"This can't be real."

I agreed.

Nothing about this felt real.

Then one of the officers handed me an envelope.

"We found this nearby."

I opened it.

Inside was a single note.

My jaw immediately clenched.

The note contained only four words.

You can't find me.

Aries read it over my shoulder.

Neither of us spoke.

Because we both understood.

Whoever did this...

Wasn't hiding anymore.

They wanted us to know they existed.

And they wanted us to be afraid.

I immediately pulled out my phone.

And called Keifer.

Keifer POV

I had fallen asleep sitting beside Jay's hospital bed.

The phone ringing woke me up.

I immediately answered.

"Angelo?"

His voice was colder than usual.

"Move her."

I frowned.

"What?"

"Take Jay to the island."

I sat up instantly.

"Why?"

Silence.

Then Angelo answered.

"The real game has started."

My stomach dropped.

"What happened?"

"Kaizer is dead."

For a moment, I forgot how to breathe.

My father.

Dead.

No.

Impossible.

Then Angelo continued.

"And whoever did it left a message."

I already knew I wasn't going to like this.

"What did it say?"

"You can't find me."

A chill ran down my spine.

I looked toward Jay.

Still sleeping.

Still recovering.

Still vulnerable.

"Take her somewhere safe."

"I'll handle everything here."

I closed my eyes.

Then nodded.

"Okay."

Someone had done what nobody else could.

The call ended.

And for the first time..."The real game has started."

I felt afraid.

Not for myself.

For her.

Jay POV

I didn't ask questions.

Not when Keifer packed our bags.

Not when we boarded the private jet.

Not when he kept checking his phone every five minutes.

Something was wrong.

I knew it.

But I also knew he wasn't ready to tell me.

So I stayed quiet.

The entire flight.

Until—

The island appeared.

My eyes widened.

Blue ocean.

Golden sand.

Endless water.

The sunlight danced across the waves.

The breeze gently brushed against my face.

For the first time in days...

I smiled.

A real smile.

And Keifer noticed.

Of course he noticed.

He always noticed.

The moment we stepped off the plane, I ran toward the beach.

The ocean air felt amazing.

I spread my arms.

Laughing.

Feeling free.

For the first time since everything happened.

Behind me, Keifer smiled.

Then he leaned closer.

His voice low.

"Forget about everyone else for now."

I looked at him.

He smirked.

"Just remember me."

I rolled my eyes.

"You're impossible."

"Maybe."

Then I scooped up water and splashed it directly at him.

His eyes widened.

"Jay."

I laughed.

And splashed him again.

Big mistake.

The next second I turned and ran.

Unfortunately...

I was slower.

Much slower.

Within seconds he caught me.

"Got you."

Before I could escape, he lifted me effortlessly.

"Keifer!"

I laughed.

"Put me down!"

"No."

"Keifer!"

"No."

I continued kicking the air dramatically.

Which only made him laugh harder.

Then he carried me toward the villa.

The house was beautiful.

Huge glass windows.

Ocean views.

White walls.

Everything looked dreamy.

Like something from a movie.

I stood there staring.

Then—

Grrrrr.

The sound echoed through the room.

I froze.

Keifer froze.

Then both of us looked at my stomach.

Traitor.

I pointed at it.

"You embarrassed me."

Keifer burst out laughing.

"Apparently."

I crossed my arms.

"First of all."

He nodded seriously.

"Yes."

"I want lunch."

"Of course."

"And mango juice."

"Reasonable."

"And it better be perfect."

He raised an eyebrow.

"Or?"

I pointed dramatically toward the door.

"I'll throw you out."

Keifer immediately bowed.

"As you wish, my lady."

An hour later.

The kitchen smelled incredible.

The counters were full.

Food everywhere.

I practically attacked my plate.

The moment I took the first bite—

My eyes widened.

"Oh my God."

Keifer looked up.

"What?"

"This is amazing."

His smile appeared instantly.

I pointed my fork at him.

"You are forgiven."

"Thank you."

"For now."

Evening

The sunset painted the sky orange and gold.

I sat beside Keifer on the balcony.

The ocean stretched endlessly in front of us.

Beautiful.

Peaceful.

Quiet.

For a moment...

Everything felt normal again.

I leaned against him.

Without thinking.

Without realizing it.

Keifer wrapped an arm around me.

Neither of us said anything.

We simply watched the sunset together.

And for the first time in a long time...

I felt safe.

Keifer POV

That night I thought things would finally be okay.

I was wrong.

The moment Jay closed her eyes—

She froze.

Her breathing changed.

Fast.

Uneven.

Panicked.

Then she sat upright.

Tears already forming.

"No."

Her voice shook.

"No..."

I immediately moved closer.

"Jay."

She looked terrified.

Completely terrified.

Like she was seeing something I couldn't.

"It's okay."

She shook her head.

"It isn't."

Tears rolled down her cheeks.

"I can hear them."

My chest tightened.

The nightmare again.

I gently took her hand.

"Look at me."

Slowly she did.

"You're here."

I said softly.

"You're safe."

Another tear slipped down her face.

Then another.

I carefully pulled her closer.

She didn't resist.

She looked exhausted.

Scared.

Broken.

Like she hadn't truly rested in days.

Then I sat against the headboard.

And gently rested her head in my lap.

"There."

She looked up at me.

I ruffled her hair.

Slowly.

Patiently.

The same way I always did.

"Try to sleep."

"What if it comes back?"

Her voice was tiny.

Fragile.

I looked down at her.

"Then I'll be here."

Jay stared at me.

Then finally nodded.

I continued stroking her hair.

Patting her head.

Keeping her calm.

Minutes passed.

Then her breathing slowed.

Then slowed again.

Eventually...

She fell asleep.

Still holding my hand.

I looked down at her.

Then carefully pulled a blanket over both of us.

I didn't move.

Not an inch.

Because the truth was...

I was afraid too.

And if staying awake meant she could finally sleep peacefully...

Then I'd stay awake all night.
