The moment I stepped into the dining hall, a blinding light washed over me. I blinked twice, adjusting to the illumination provided by the golden chandeliers. Behind me, Miri stopped short and whispered, "I'll be waiting out here."
"Alright, thank you." I offered her a smile, hoping that she did not notice the way my fingers were clenched so tightly. Turning around, my eyes danced over the members of the family.
Everyone was present. Well, everyone excluding her.
The Alpha; our target— the Luna; The man she was having a secret affair with, Sloane and Celine; Tasha, despite how much I hated to see her there; Julian; and of course, my Kaeren. They all surrounded the lengthy dining table that was draped in shifty silk and decorated with delicacies of all kinds.
The air itself seemed to sizzle with heat the moment I walked in. Every head turned, and although a number of them smiled, the rest looked like they were ready to pounce.
