'Oh boy, this isn't looking good at all,' Jacob cursed his luck inwardly, watching the standoff with a sinking feeling in his gut.
He had tried so hard to play the peacemaker and get everyone on the same page, but the old grudges and the hot tempers were making it nearly impossible.
Why couldn't everything just go easily and smoothly like he wanted for once? He could see the former captives getting restless again, and the sisters were starting to look bored with the talking, which was always a bad sign.
He needed to find a way to stop Flounder from cutting Douglas's throat before the whole deck turned into a battleground again.

"Hmph!" Douglas scoffed, his face twisting into a mask of pure pirate anger. In a flash of steel, sparks flew into the air as he drew his own heavy blade from his waist, using a rough, practiced swing to forcefully knock the young man's sword back and away from his neck.
