She looked at him with an absolute look of heartbreak, her lower lip trembling. "If it's because of me, because of the terrible thing I did to you back—"
"It has absolutely nothing to do with you," Jacob interrupted quickly, stepping closer to the edge of the deck.
He didn't want her to lose control of her emotions again.
He placed both of his hands firmly on her trembling shoulders to calm her down before she could fall into a complete panic. He hated seeing her cry, especially when he was the one causing the pain.
He gently reached down toward her face, using the tips of his fingers to softly dab away at the fresh tears that were rolling down her wet cheeks.
He kept his movements slow and tender, showing her the utmost patience. "I truly meant what I said back then, Persephone. I am not upset with you at all, alright? The past is fully behind us, and I don't hold a single ounce of anger toward you or the village."
