"The dates, the guild names, and the exact credit values in this sworn statement perfectly match the numbers Auditor Renner just provided," Hale stated bluntly. "These two men have not spoken in weeks. They have been held in completely separate Bastions. They could not possibly coordinate a lie of this mathematical density."
The evidence held. The trap snapped shut.
"The testimony is corroborated," Hale declared, striking her wooden gavel against the table. "The financial link is verified. Senator Vast, you have a great deal to answer for."
General Hadrian Kest sat on the floor of his apartment.
He was wearing gray sweatpants and a simple white undershirt. He was currently performing slow, methodical pushups using only his functioning arm. His ruined right hand rested limp and bandaged against his side, the fingers curled and still.
