Chapter 288: Zero Returns
Draven walked past the ruined threshold of the eastern quarter.
The towering walls of petrified wood had dissolved into a thick layer of gray ash blowing across the cracked cobblestones. He stepped entirely out of the makeshift fortress, leaving the bleeding dockworkers and the surviving Vanguard guards behind him.
He stood alone in the open intersection.
Directly in front of him was an ocean of polished gray steel. Twenty thousand Capital soldiers formed an unyielding, overlapping shield wall that stretched deep into the affluent streets of the captured city. They were a flawless military machine. They had marched for two weeks. They had starved a district. They had waited for the indestructible timber to rot.
Now, the gate was gone. The path to slaughter was open.
But a single figure stood in the way.
