The heavy, suffocating silence of the abandoned processing plant finally settled over the concrete floor.

A pile of gray ash and ruined wool clothing was all that remained of the entity. The dark smoke had completely dissipated into the freezing air, leaving the factory feeling entirely empty.

No one in the squad was quite ready to speak. They stood in their loose perimeter, staring at the spot where the fragment of the god had unraveled.

Draven lowered his dark blade. The immediate threat inside the cage was gone, but the toll of the hunt was written clearly across the room.

Aegon knelt beside a pile of broken bricks. Reina Frost leaned heavily against the wall, her face entirely drained of color. Her breathing was shallow and ragged. The deep cut on her thigh was still bleeding, and her fractured ribs made every slight movement a grueling ordeal.

The heavy iron doors of the factory creaked open.
