My eyes widened in horror at the significance of the belt. Was that the man that lasted a minute? Or was it Lisa's husband? I knew I shouldn't be thinking about something like that right now.
I reached for Thalia's hand without thinking. I could feel her trembling and I knew it wasn't because of the cold. Something was awfully wrong.
She squeezed my hand once. Then let go.
"I'll see you tomorrow, Ravy," she said quietly, like nothing was happening. Like the man with the belt wasn't standing there watching her walk towards him.
I stood frozen on the pavement, watching her go, the car door still open behind me, the rain beginning to fall in slow heavy drops.
Jericho's hand landed gently on my shoulder.
"Get back in the car," he said quietly.
I didn't move immediately. I kept my eyes on Thalia's back until the door closed behind her and the man followed and the house swallowed them both.
