"What's going on?"
"My child!"
"Please calm down, parents."
"Don't go over there!!"
Everyone was burning with anxiety, their eyes locked on the students fleeing madly toward the outside.
"Daddy, save me!!"
Bang!!! A gigantic bat appeared in the sky above the school. Pointing its snout at the sky, it let out a roaring laugh. "Finally, I can eat some child hotpot."
"It's the Bat Devil!!" Liu and the others quickly prepared for battle.
"Jackie!" Hak Foo shouted.
"Go to the car and prep the blood bags. I'll take him out." After saying that, Jackie immediately stripped off his clothes and pants, muttering, "Monster Devil!!"
The next second, his body mutated, transforming into a dark gray, blue-skinned devil with a massive pair of wings on its back, looking very much like a bat itself.
Whoosh~
A gust of wind kicked up behind the crowd. The sound of flapping wings caught the attention of some of the parents.
"Ah!!"
"There's another devil behind us!"
"Don't tell me the Bat Devil comes in a male and female pair!"
"Don't panic, everyone," Liu shouted, recognizing that this devil was Jackie's transformed state.
Swish!!! Jackie swooped over everyone's heads, charging straight at the Bat Devil. In an instant, he slammed into the Bat Devil, knocking it backward just as it was about to pounce on the kids.
The two devils tangled together mid-air, grappling fiercely and buying the children precious time to escape.
"There are a ton of kids here. I can share some with you." The Bat Devil, not wanting to miss out on his child hotpot because of a fight, offered to split the meal.
"Really?"
"Of course, we can cooperate."
"That's wonderful."
Seeing that Jackie seemed willing to cooperate, the Bat Devil instantly lowered its guard. But Jackie seized the opening, smashing his tail directly onto the top of its head and sending the Bat Devil crashing straight down to the ground.
"Damn you!!! You're asking for death." The Bat Devil's face twisted into a ferocious glare. It took a massive breath, its stomach rapidly expanding.
Jackie knew exactly how destructive this attack was and hurriedly flew higher, constantly circling in the air to dodge the incoming blast. At first, the Bat Devil had its snout aimed at the sky, but its eyes suddenly shifted.
Instead, it aimed its mouth right at the massive crowd of kids and parents clustered at the school gates.
"Oh no!!!" Jackie roared, putting his body into a rapid nosedive. He wanted to forcefully tank the ultrasonic wave with his own body, but he was a step too late.
The ultrasonic blast fired directly toward the school gates. In the split second it launched, the Bat Devil smiled. If he couldn't eat a live child hotpot, dead ones would do just fine. It was still better than letting them get away.
"Ah!!" Seeing that it was too late to run, the parents frantically shielded their children, using their own backs to block the incoming attack.
Bang!!! A colossal sound of impact echoed out.
The children and parents squeezed their eyes shut, the sound of many people crying ringing out from the crowd. But a moment passed, and not a single person had been blown away. Instead, everyone was completely unharmed.
They thought another devil had stepped in to block the ultrasonic wave, but when they turned around, they saw a man wearing a surgical mask standing behind them. He had raised his right hand, conjuring a wall of wind. The massive crash from earlier was just the sound of the ultrasonic blast smashing into that wind barrier.
"What the..." The Bat Devil was completely dumbfounded. A mere human had blocked his ultimate killer move just by lifting a hand. The Bat Devil started to wonder if he was dreaming.
"Arata!!" Up in the sky, Jackie was even more shocked. He knew Arata was incredibly strong, but he never expected him to block a blast like that barehanded.
"Impossible!!!" The Bat Devil cried out in shock, instantly flying into a violent rage. He could smell that Arata wasn't a devil at all. It began charging up its attack again, this time taking even longer to gather the ultrasonic energy.
In response, Arata was also charging up an attack.
"He... can do it too!!" A thought flashed through the Bat Devil's mind as it noticed Arata's eyes crinkling in a smile. It was a look of pure mockery.
"Damn it!! Don't look down on me, human!!" With a furious roar, the Bat Devil unleashed the strongest strike it could muster to defend its dignity.
Arata blasted out his own ultrasonic wave at the exact same time. The two waves collided, generating a massive updraft of pressurized air. Jackie was almost swept away by the current, while the parents and children outside the school gates all flattened themselves against the ground.
Not wanting to get caught in the crossfire, Jackie immediately flew off into the distance to revert to his human form. Hak Foo grabbed the blood bags and chased after Jackie, tracking his flight path.
Boom!!! The two sonic waves clashed and completely canceled each other out. Once the turbulent winds died down, the Bat Devil's entire body was swarming with rats, flies, and mosquitoes.
"No!!!" the Bat Devil shrieked in agony. His wings had already been gnawed off by the rats, leaving him completely unable to fly. All he could do was thrash and roll around on the ground. Very quickly, nothing was left but a pile of white bones.
"Where's the Bat Devil?"
"That pile of bones over there is probably the Bat Devil."
"What!! I didn't even see how the bat died."
"Must have been eaten by the rats!"
"A bat that huge got eaten by rats? Wait, aren't rats supposed to be afraid of bats?"
"Whatever, as long as the Bat Devil is dead, that's all that matters."
After a brief moment of stunned silence, loud cheers erupted through the crowd. This kind of scene made Liu, who was standing in the back of the crowd, burn with jealousy. Arata, on the other hand, wasn't about to stick around just to let everyone stare at him for five minutes.
Just as he was about to leave, someone tugged at the hem of his shirt. He turned around to see a fourteen or fifteen-year-old girl with an androgynous short haircut, wearing a white long-sleeved shirt under an orange hoodie, staring at him with wide eyes.
"You must be Arata, right?" the girl asked.
"Jade, come here quickly." Liu rushed into the school grounds and grabbed Jade, pulling her back to his side.
"Let go of me," Jade said, annoyed, before stomping her foot hard onto Liu's shoe.
"Ah!!" Liu yelped in pain and let go, but still tried to persuade her. "Behave yourself, Jade, don't bother the hero."
"That's right, he's my hero, because he just saved me," Jade said, rushing right back over to hug Arata's arm.
"I'm so sorry about this, she's our captain's niece," Liu apologized.
"It's fine," Arata smiled. He really wanted to go collect the corpse right now, but Jade was clinging to his arm so tightly he couldn't get away.
"You're definitely Arata, aren't you," Jade asked again.
"Y-You're Arata?" Liu asked in shock. If this really was Arata, then everything that just happened made perfect sense.
"Arata, you got here pretty fast." Two other members from Dragon Team 1 hurried over from behind them.
They recognized Arata at a single glance. Even though his face was covered by a mask, his height and hairstyle were basically identical to the Arata they'd seen on TV. Combined with the insane display of strength they just witnessed, they knew instantly that this had to be him.
"Well, since you guys already recognized me, there's no point in hiding it." Arata pulled off his mask.
"It really is Arata!!" Liu exclaimed, then immediately turned and shouted to the crowd at the school gate, "Everyone, look over here! Arata is here!"
"What! Arata!"
"The Arata who wiped out tens of thousands of people in Japan?!"
"You're remembering it wrong, the one that wiped out tens of thousands of people was some gigantic devil, right?"
"Those numbers are inaccurate anyway, some people say it was over a hundred thousand."
"Hero!!" The crowd began shouting at Arata again, the distance between them rapidly shrinking as people pressed forward.
Seeing so many eyes converging on this spot, Liu hurriedly stepped in front of Arata to block him, a look of pure, almost orgasmic enjoyment washing over his face.
"The price this guy pays has got to be an inferiority complex or something, right?"
"Just ignore Liu. He's developed extreme social exhibitionism just to gather people's stares."
"His price is that if no one pays attention to him, his body will constantly shrink, basically drying up like a husk."
"Oh no!!" Arata suddenly covered his mouth with his free hand.
"What's wrong?"
"I think I got infected by the Bat Devil. I suddenly have the urge to eat children."
Jade was so terrified she instantly let go of his arm.
Taking advantage of the opening, Arata instantly bolted over to the Bat Devil's corpse. He raised both hands, gathering wind around the Bat Devil's skeletal remains until the pile of white bones levitated into the air.
Then, carrying the Bat Devil's remains with him, he flew off toward somewhere else.
Seeing that Arata didn't forget to take out the trash after finishing his battle, the school's cleaning lady smiled in heartfelt gratification.
