Not far from the bakery was the entrance to the Chinese restaurant. Across from it was the entrance to the Western restaurant's garden area. At each entrance stood a two-meter-tall retractable banner stand, listing the fixed menu for the season.
The Western menu wasn't anything special, just some of the most common dishes. The Chinese menu, however, was written in Chinese, with small-print translations below.
But all Da Xia People knew that once the names of the dishes were translated into English, they lost their character. The translations were purely descriptions of ingredients and cooking methods, so foreigners couldn't imagine what the dishes actually looked like just from reading the names.
So, to attract more foreign tourists to try Chinese food, printed photos of the actual dishes were hung on the wall next to the menu, corresponding to each item.
