"I haven't lost any weight! Mom, I've got a lot of work today, so I'll probably be late getting off. How about tomorrow instead?"
Evelyn Grant already felt bad for taking time off to see someone off at the airport. If she left on time and pushed her work to the next day, she felt that would be really unprofessional.
'I wouldn't even know how to face Mr. Shaw.'
"So what if you're a little late? Your brother has extra evening classes recently, so he's not home either. It's just me here all alone. It'll be nice to have you back to keep me company."
"But I'm not sure what time I'll be able to make it."
Evelyn Grant's situation was indeed unusual today.
In the past, whenever her mother asked her to come home, she would never have refused.
"No matter what time you get here, Mom will be waiting! And don't go back tonight. Just stay here with me. You can go straight to your law firm from here tomorrow morning."
"...All right. I'll head over when I'm done."
"Great!"
