Morning light filtered through the tall windows of the council chamber in the Hokage Tower. The air felt different than it had only days earlier. The tension that had hung over every meeting for years was no longer suffocating the room.
Yet no one present felt relaxed.
War did not simply vanish overnight.
At the head of the long circular table sat the Third Hokage, Hiruzen Sarutobi.
Around the table sat the senior leadership of Konohagakure
Standing quietly behind Hiruzen's chair was Shinji Uchiha, listening as the commanders discussed the final reports arriving from the western front.
A messenger knelt in the center of the room, head lowered as he finished delivering his message.
"…the bridge was destroyed completely, Lord Hokage."
The room went silent.
Even the seasoned jonin felt the weight of the words.
Hiruzen leaned forward slightly.
"You're certain?"
"Yes, Lord Third."
The messenger swallowed.
"Confirmed by multiple scouts."
He lifted a scroll.
"This report comes directly from Minato Namikaze."
Shikaku exhaled slowly.
"Well."
"There it is."
Hiruzen opened the scroll and read it quietly.
His expression did not change, but after a moment he closed the document and set it down.
"The mission was successful."
The words settled across the room like a slow wave.
The destruction of Kannabi Bridge had been a gamble.
A single team sent deep behind enemy lines to cripple the supply network of Iwagakure.
If it succeeded, the war would end.
If it failed… Thousands more would die.
Choza rubbed the back of his neck. "That's it then."
Shikaku nodded slightly. "Iwagakure can't sustain their offensive without that route."
Fugaku spoke next, his voice calm. "Their army will be forced to retreat."
Shinosuke crossed his arms. "And they know it."
"The Stone village has already begun withdrawing their forces."
He looked around the table.
"Our scouts confirm their armies are retreating back across their borders."
He paused. "The war is over."
No cheers erupted.
The Third Shinobi World War had finally come to an end.
Choza leaned back in his chair.
"Well…"
"That'll take some getting used to."
Shikaku gave a faint smirk.
"Peace usually does."
Fugaku remained silent, his sharp eyes studying the strategy map on the wall.
Shinosuke spoke next. "What about the terms?"
Hiruzen shook his head slightly. "There will be negotiations."
"But Iwagakure has already lost the initiative."
His gaze hardened slightly.
"They know it."
The Hokage turned his attention toward Shinji.
"You should remember this moment."
Shinji met his teacher's eyes.
"Yes, Lord Third."
Hiruzen's voice softened slightly.
"Wars do not end because armies run out of soldiers."
He gestured toward the scroll on the table.
"They end because one decision changes the entire battlefield.
Shikaku stood from his chair.
"Well then."
"I suppose we should start figuring out how to run a village without a war for the first time in years."
Choza chuckled quietly. "That might actually be harder."
Hiruzen allowed himself a faint smile. "Perhaps."
He walked toward the window overlooking the village.
Below, life continued normally. Civilians moved through the streets. Children ran between market stalls. None of them yet knew that the war was over.
Hiruzen looked back toward the room. "We will make the announcement tomorrow."
Fugaku nodded. "The village deserves to hear it from you."
"Yes," Hiruzen said quietly. "They do."
The meeting slowly began to disperse. Commanders gathered their scrolls and reports. Strategies that had once meant life or death were now simply records of history.
Outside the tower, a bell began to ring across the rooftops of Konohagakure.
The signal traveled through the streets, echoing across the village.
Citizens looked up in confusion.
Then shinobi began spreading the news.
The war had ended.
