Chapter 1 - Chapter 1: The Quiet Before the Storm :-

The word "hunting" usually conjures images of silent forests, camouflaged gear, and the pursuit of wild animals for sport or survival. But in this story, hunting has a much darker definition. Here, the prey does not breathe, it does not feel pain, and it never stops. To be a hunter in this world is to stand between the living and the ravenous undead. This is the chronicle of those brave enough to face the rot and uncover the truth behind the "Z" existence.

The Scavenger and the Engineer

In the sun-scorched city of Kalgoorlie, Australia, the morning of March 22nd began like any other. Harry Richard stood in the center of his small apartment, surrounded by cardboard boxes. A calm and focused IT professional, Richard was a man of logic and determination. He had just received a career-defining transfer to Sydney, a move he hoped would be a fresh start.

As he taped his last box shut at 9:00 a.m., the television in the corner crackled. A news reporter, her voice tight with suppressed panic, announced that a massive asteroid had struck Port Hedland. Recovery operations were underway, but the details were vague. Richard stared at the screen for a moment, a knot of unease forming in his stomach, before switching it off. He had a train to catch.

He took a final ride on his favorite motorcycle to the metro station. To gather extra funds for the expensive city life ahead, he sold the bike to a local dealer on the spot. As he watched the new owner wheel it away, he whispered under his breath, "Goodbye, my friend."

Nearby, in a cluttered garage, James William sat staring at his dream project—a custom-built automobile that had cost him his savings and several high-interest loans. An expert engineer, James was a dreamer whose ambition had outpaced his bank account. To escape the crushing weight of debt, he had decided to move to Sydney to find higher-paying work. He parked his masterpiece in the lot of the C.A.I. Finance Company, the very people who held his loans, and began the one-kilometer walk to the station. Every step was a promise to himself that he would one day buy his dream back.

The Doctor and the Teacher

At the heavy iron gates of the Kalgoorlie Central Jail, Gwen Victoria stepped out into the blinding sunlight. Once a respected surgeon, a single tragic mistake in the operating theater had cost a patient their life and Gwen her freedom. Now released, she carried nothing but a small bag and a fierce desire to rebuild her reputation. Sydney was a city of millions—a perfect place to disappear and start over.

Meanwhile, Stella Lucy was packing her bags at a local university lodging. An orphan who had climbed the academic ladder through sheer grit, Stella had spent the last few years teaching English in Kalgoorlie. But her heart belonged to Sydney, her hometown. She had already booked a small room there, eager to return to the streets she knew as a child.

The Gathering

By midday, the metro station was a sea of noise and heat. Richard stood on the platform, checking his watch, when a man with grease-stained cuticles approached him.

"Hi, brother! Does the train waiting here go to Sydney?" James asked, wiping sweat from his forehead.

Richard turned with a friendly, welcoming smile. "No, brother. That one's local. Are you also headed to Sydney?"

"Yes," James replied, extending a hand. "I'm James."

"I'm Richard," he said, shaking it firmly. A spark of kinship formed instantly—two men leaving their pasts behind.

Suddenly, a commotion broke out near the ticketing kiosk. Stella Lucy came sprinting through the crowd, her face flushed with excitement and hurry. In her haste, her foot caught on a luggage strap. she tumbled hard, her knee striking the sharp edge of a metal bench. Blood began to trickle down her leg, staining her stockings.

Richard and James rushed forward. "Be careful!" Richard said, helping her into a seat.

"The wound is deep," James noted, looking concerned. "We need to get this cleaned."

Before they could search for help, a woman with a steady gaze and a professional air stepped through the crowd. Gwen didn't hesitate. "Is there a problem here?" she asked, already kneeling to inspect the injury.

"She fell in a hurry," James explained.

"Stay calm. I'm a doctor," Gwen said, her voice instantly soothing. She grabbed a first-aid kit from the station's emergency counter and began dressing the wound with practiced precision.

"Thank you, everyone," Lucy winced, but smiled through the pain. "I'm Lucy. I'm heading home to Sydney."

Gwen looked up, a rare smile crossing her face. "I'm Gwen. And that's where I'm going, too."

Richard grinned at the group. "What a coincidence. It seems we're all traveling toward the same fate."

As the whistle of the Sydney Express echoed through the tunnel, the four of them stood together. They were strangers from different worlds—an IT expert, an engineer, a disgraced doctor, and a teacher—but as they boarded the train, they had no idea that their journey was the beginning of a war that would decide the future of the human race.
