Chapter 91 - Chapter 91: The Wall

### Chapter 91: The Wall

Lyra didn't hesitate. The space between them vanished in an instant as she lunged forward, a sudden burst of speed tearing up the ground beneath her boots. With a sharp exhale, she channeled her energy, and a roaring torrent of fire engulfed her right fist completely, turning the air around it into a shimmering haze. She closed the gap in a heartbeat, aiming a devastating opening blow right for Silas's jaw.

But before her fist could make impact, Silas moved.

It wasn't a dodge so much as a cruel trick of reality. He slanted quietly to the side, his movements so unnaturally fluid and impossibly fast that time seemed to warp around him. To Lyra, it felt as though she hadn't attacked at all, but had simply walked right past him. The momentum of her own explosive speed carried her forward, her fist striking nothing but empty, heated air.

"No!" Lyra hissed, refusing to let the exchange end so effortlessly.

As she shot past him, she dug her heels into the dirt. Her shoes skidded violently, kicking up a cloud of dust and sparks as she forced her body to spin around. She fought the forward drag of her own weight, twisting her torso back toward Silas, desperate to regain control before he could capitalize on her exposed back.

The moment her slide ground to a halt, she didn't waste a millisecond. Fire blazed from the soles of her feet with the force of a detonating rocket, launching her forward once more. She had learned her lesson from the first pass—she couldn't rely on linear speed. She needed to crowd his space.

Lyra stopped directly in front of him, forcefully killing her forward momentum to anchor herself. With both fists now fully engulfed in raging, crackling flames, she unleashed a blinding tempest of punches.

*Left. Right. Upper. Hook.*

She threw her first fist, but Silas merely leaned backward with a lazy, almost bored tilt of his head, the flames missing his nose by a fraction of an inch. The second punch came immediately after, a heavy gut-shot, but Silas bent to the side with effortless precision, letting the fiery fist whistle past his ribs. The heat was intense enough to singe the air, yet he didn't even blink.

Frustration fueling her fire, Lyra altered her rhythm. She leaped into the air, her body rotating as both of her feet rose to Silas's eye level. Fueled by the ignition at her heels, she launched two swift, successive kicks. Silas leaned back once more, his spine bending at an impossible angle as the first heel whirled past his chest. But Lyra had anticipated the dodge. Her second foot came flying in like a comet, engulfed in a brilliant flash of flame, aiming square for his face.

He was fast, but this time, she was just a fraction faster. Or so she thought.

Silas raised his left hand, his palm meeting the sole of her burning boot. *Crack!*

For the very first time in the entire bout, her attack actually landed. Mid-air, Lyra's face brightened, a sudden surge of adrenaline rushing through her veins. *I got him to block!* she thought inwardly, a triumphant spark igniting in her chest.

However, her excitement was tragically short-lived.

Silas's fingers flexed. The hand he had used to block her kick snapped shut like a steel vise, clamping tightly around her ankle. Lyra's eyes widened in sudden, jarring shock. Before the realization of the trap could even fully register in her mind, Silas ripped her downward.

Using her own leg as a lever, he slammed her into the earth with terrifying, casual strength.

Lyra's back struck the ground first. The impact was deafening. The sheer force of the throw radiated through the earth, shattering the stone beneath her and leaving a crater the exact size of her body right underneath her.

"Gh-!" Lyra gasped, the air violently driven from her lungs. A blinding surge of pain shot up her spine, radiating through her ribs and making her vision blur for a terrifying second.

Yet, looking up at the towering figure of Silas standing over her, a fierce, unwilling light flared in her eyes. She refused to give up here. She refused to let this be the end of the line.

With her free foot, she snapped a desperate, powerful kick straight upward toward Silas's face. A massive fireball erupted from her boot, launching point-blank at his head. The explosion of heat and light forced Silas to release his grip on her ankle as the flames engulfed him.

Seeing the split-second opportunity, Lyra didn't wait to see the damage. She used the recoil of the blast to leap backward from the ground, arching her body into a frantic mid-air backflip. She spun through the smoke and stuck the landing, her boots digging into the dirt as she slid back into a defensive stance.

Panting heavily, her breath coming in ragged, painful gasps, she raised her head.

Through the dissipating smoke, her gaze met Silas's. Her heart sank. He was completely unscathed. The fireball had done nothing but ruffle his collar; not a single mark, ash, or scratch marred his skin. He was looking down at her intently, his sharp eyes narrowed, studying her every micro-movement like a scientist dissecting a fascinating, yet primitive, specimen.

Lyra froze. That familiar, paralyzing feeling began to crawl up her spine like a freezing current. Fear, cold and heavy, settled deep into her gut, and she felt a distinct, treacherous tremble in her knees. The gap between them felt like an ocean.

*No. Stop it,* she commanded herself, clenching her trembling fists until her knuckles turned white. *Fear changes nothing.*

She closed her eyes for a single heartbeat, taking a deep, shuddering breath. She forced the coldness out, clearing her mind completely this time, deliberately burning away her anxieties and doubts with the inner fire she possessed. When her eyes snapped open, the trembling was gone. There was only focus.

She moved once again, charging toward Silas. He stood completely still, his posture relaxed, looking entirely unimpressed by her renewed advance.

Halfway across the distance, Lyra's feet burst into a blinding, golden-red flame. The sudden ignition acted like a jet thruster, zooming her forward so fast she became a blur of heat. In a matter of seconds, she closed the short distance between them, airborne once more, her blazing heels aiming directly for Silas's eyes.

Silas didn't duck. He didn't lean back. He merely raised a single hand, his palm catching her heel with a dull, heavy thud that absorbed every ounce of her kinetic energy instantly. The flames washed over his arm, dying out against his skin as if they were nothing more than a warm summer breeze.

Lyra suspended in the air, her foot trapped in his unyielding grip, looked down at him. Her chest heaved from the exertion, but instead of the panic Silas likely expected, the corners of her lips curved into a sharp, unsettling grin.

She had anticipated this. She was smart enough to know he would try the exact same counter-grip, and she had used her own trajectory to anchor herself directly in his line of sight.

"Now!"

She raised both her hands, locking her core to maintain her mid-air balance, and stretched them straight forward toward Silas's face. The temperature in the clearing skyrocketed as she gathered every remaining drop of her volatile energy into her palms.

"**Ignis Eclipse!**"

A massive, compressed torrent of white-hot fire surged forward from her palms. The blast was blinding, a roaring cylinder of pure, destructive heat that hit Silas point-blank in the face. The shockwave rattled the fountain, kicking up a superheated gale that threatened to incinerate the surrounding. Lyra poured everything she had into the stream, holding nothing back, confident that a direct, unmitigated hit at this range had to force him to break his stance.

Lyra believed she had finally gotten him. However, as the roar of the flames began to subside, she realized his grip on her foot did not loosen even a fraction of an inch. His fingers remained fixed tightly around her ankle, completely unyielding, like stone carved into the earth.

"What..."

She watched with eyes filled with absolute shock as the first blaring waves of fire from Silas's body began to fade. The space immediately surrounding his skin began to warp and ripple, creating a bizarre, transparent vacuum. Instead of burning him, the residual fire was instantly drawn into the distortion, completely absorbed into the space around his body within seconds. Not a single ash remained. His face was entirely unmarked, his eyes calm and perfectly focused on her.

Lyra braced herself for his counter-strike. She tensed her muscles, preparing for the inevitable slam into the dirt, waiting for the heavy impact to shatter her remaining breath.

But it didn't come.

Silas held her there suspended in the air for a quiet, agonizing moment. He looked at her face, noting the absolute determination cutting through the sheer exhaustion and shock in her eyes. Slowly, the tight, emotionless line of his mouth softened, curving into a small, genuine smirk. A low, appreciative chuckle rumbled deep in his chest.

"Not bad, Lyra," Silas said, his voice smooth, carrying a terrifying weight that seemed to vibrate through the very air.

With a gentle but firm push, he released her ankle, allowing her to drop cleanly back onto her feet. Lyra stumbled back a step, her boots scraping against the loose gravel. Her eyes remained wide as she watched him slowly roll his shoulders, the casual, lazy demeanor he had held for the entire duration of the match completely evaporating.

A heavy, suffocating aura suddenly flooded the clearing. The air grew instantly thick, heavy, and incredibly hard to breathe, pressing down on Lyra's chest like physical weight. The casual instructor was gone; in his place stood an apex predator.

Silas raised his hands, raising his guards and loosely forming a combat stance of his own for the very first time. His eyes locked onto hers with a sudden, predatory intensity that sent a thrill of pure electricity down her spine.

"So, let's see how you handle the real thing. I'm going to start fighting back now." Silas said, his voice echoing with an entirely new, dangerous edge
