Chapter 3 - Chapter 1 part 3

forest

I headed deep into the forest to search for the cat, but as I reached the town gate, someone called out to me.

"Rey! Rey Balley! Wait up, you forgot something!"

I turned to see the inn owner hurrying toward me.

By the time he reached me, he was out of breath, panting heavily from exhaustion.

"You forgot your pendant," he managed to say, breathing heavily as he caught his breath.

A wave of relief hit me. That pendant was a gift from my family in my old world, one of the few things I had left of them.

I couldn't afford to lose it.

I lowered my head in gratitude and offered him my sincere thanks.

"Thank you… I really don't know what I would've done if this necklace had been lost. Thank you, Mr. Vale," I said, my voice filled with sincerity.

"You're welcome. Just try not to lose it again," he said, catching his breath.

After passing through the town gate, I followed the worn path leading outward.

Before long, the noise of the town faded behind me, replaced by the quiet rustling of leaves as I reached the edge of the forest.

While wandering along the outskirts of the forest, a sudden growl pierced the quiet.

My heart skipped a beat as a bear lumbered into view, taller than the trees and exuding a terrifying presence.

"Ahh! Death bear!" I yelled, fear gripping me. My mind raced, I didn't know which way to run, when suddenly…

I glanced behind me and saw a small cub.

Then it hit me, the enormous death bear was a actually mother, and I had nearly put her baby in danger.

I retreated slowly, trying not to provoke the bear.

Relief washed over me as I felt the danger easing… until something suddenly leapt from behind.

My eyes widened, it was the cat I'd been searching for, frolicking with the cub as if nothing had happened.

Not long after, while heading back, I caught sight of a figure struggling against a group of bandits.

It was an elf with green hair, fending off five armed bandits.

I froze for a moment, then gently set the cat down, preparing myself to act.

I crouched low, keeping the cat at my side for now, and assessed the situation.

Five bandits, all armed, surrounding the green-haired elf, it wasn't a fight I could take head-on without a plan.

I noticed their formation: two in front, two flanking, and one lurking behind, probably ready to strike if she tried to run.

My mind raced. I needed to create a distraction, something to draw their attention away from her.

With a deep breath, I picked up a handful of loose stones from the ground and hurled them toward a cluster of trees nearby.

The stones clattered loudly, echoing through the forest edge.

Two of the bandits turned instinctively, looking toward the noise.

That was all the opening I needed.

I dashed forward, keeping low, and aimed a quick strike at the nearest bandit's leg with my dagger.

He stumbled, cursing, and I pushed him back toward the trees.

The elf's eyes widened as she realized I wasn't here to fight her, I was here to help.

She ducked low and rolled behind me, pulling out a short bow from her back and nocking an arrow.

The remaining bandits hesitated, startled by the sudden counterattack.

The air was tense, the forest edge silent except for the rustle of leaves and the elf's arrow sliding from the string.

I glanced at her and nodded. We didn't have much time, if

we didn't act together, these bandits wouldn't hesitate to overwhelm us.
