Amelia's POV
Daniel did not look back.
He stood up, took Sophia's hand and walked out of the restaurant. I saw my husband I have known for three years walking away with another womanas if our three years of marriage meant nothing to him.
I remained seated in the chair, frozen.
The noise of the restaurant continued around me people laughing, glass clanking waiters moving from table to table but everything sounded distant like I was underwater my hands trembled.
As I stared at the divorce papers lying on the table.
It was over, my marriage had officially ended.
The moment the door closed behind them, the tears I had been holding back finally spilled over.
My chest hurts more It felt like I could no longer breathe.
Tears blurred my vision.
I lowered my head and cried quietly trying not to attract more attention from the other diners.
After a while, I reached into my purse with my trembling hands and pulled out my phone.
There was only person I could call.
Mia.
My best friend.
The one person who had always stood by me.
The phone rang once.
Then twice.
She answered almost immediately.
"Amelia? What's wrong?"
But the moment I heard her voice, the words in my throat disappeared completely.
All that came out were broken sobs.
"Hey…hey Amelia, talk to me," Mia said urgently.
I wiped my my tears, struggling to speak.
"I…I'm at Riverside Restaurant."
"What happened?"
Aren't you supposed to be dining with Daniel?
Today is your anniversary.
But I could not answer.
The call ended shortly after.
Ten minutes later, Mia came running into the restaurant, her hair messy and her breath uneven.
Her eyes quickly found me sitting alone at the table.
She rushed over and grabbed my hands.
"Amelia!"
Her voice softened immediately when she saw my tear stained face.
"It's okay darling….. I'm here now."
She gently helped me stand up on my feet and led me outside.
Soon we arrived at her apartment.
The moment the door closed behind us,I completely broke down.
I cried harder than when I came to this world.
She simply sat beside me, tapping my back quietly waiting until my tears finally slowed.
She handed me the tissue and asked softly.
"where's Daniel?"
Without say a word i handed her the divorce papers she read them her expression slowly darkened.
Mia grabbed the document and unfolded it.
Her eyes scanned the page quickly.
Then suddenly she froze.
"Divorce papers?"
She said in disbelief she looked up at me immediately.
"That jerk gave you divorce papers at your anniversary dinner not even a gift?"
Oh my God.
I nodded again, unable to stop crying.
"Yes," I whispered.
Mia looked down at the papers again.
Her jaw tightened with anger.
"That bastard," she muttered angrily.
My lips trembled.
"He left me…. for another woman."
She is carrying Daniel's child.
"What… are you telling me Daniel brought another woman to your anniversary dinner?"
Let it make sense to me.
I nodded slowly fresh tears rolling down my cheeks.
I hugged my arms around myself as if trying to hold together the broken pieces inside of me.
Mia clenched the papers in her hand.
"That idiot has no idea what he just lost.
I gave a weak smile through my tears.
"He does not care anymore."
Mia suddenly looked at me carefully.
Then her gaze dropped to my stomach.
"Amelia….there is something I need to ask you."
My heart skipped for a moment.
"What?"
She hesitated for a moment before speaking.
When was the last time you had your period?"
I froze.
The room suddenly felt quieter.
My mind started calculating the days.
Then the weeks.
A cold realization slowly crept into my chest.
I looked down at my hands.
My voice barley came out.
"..I'm late."
It can not be.
Not now that I just got divorced.
Mia's eyes widened.
"Amelia… you might be pregnant."
The apartment was quiet except for the faint ticking of the wall clock and the occasional sound of cars passing outside.
