The air around us seemed to freeze.
Sophia stood a few steps away, dressed elegantly as always, long hair falling neatly over her shoulders. But the moment her eyes landed on me and Daniel standing not too far from each other her expression changed.
Confusion.
Then suspicion.
Her gaze dropped briefly to the paper still clutched in my hand before returning to Daniel.
"What is going on here?" She asked slowly.
Daniel straightened slightly. "Sophia, it is not what you think."
But Sophia had already taken a few steps closer. Her heels clicked sharply against the polished hospital floor.
"Really?" She said with a soft laugh that held no humor. "Because from where I'm standing, it looks exactly like what I think."
Mia rolled her eyes." You are just overreacting."
Sophia ignored her completely.
Her attention remained fixed on Daniel.
"You literally said you were going to call the doctor," she said quietly. "Yet I find you here standing alone with your ex-wife at the hospital."
Daniel's jaw tightened.
"Amelia and I were just talking about nothing."
Sophia's lips curved slightly.
"At the hospital?" She repeated.
Her gaze slowly shifted toward the paper again.
"Interesting place for a casual conversation."
My fingers instinctively tightened around the folded test result. I didn't want to be part of this.
Not anymore.
"Come on, Mia, " I said softly. "Let's get out of here."
But before we could take more than two steps, Sophia spoke again.
"Oh? Leaving already?"
There was something sharp in her tone now.
"Were you two discussing something important?"
Daniel frowned. "Sophia, stop this drama."
But she had already stepped forward. Her gaze landed on my stomach for a brief moment before returning to the paper in my hand.
Something flickered in her eyes.
Realization.
"Oh…" she murmured slowly.
Then she laughed.
"So that is it."
Daniel looked at her. "What are you talking about?"
Sophia crossed her arms.
"Well, now the sudden hospital visit makes sense."
She tilted her hand slightly toward me.
"Amelia must have come for a pregnancy test."
The hallway seemed to grow quieter.
Mia immediately stepped forward. You still have the gods to speak back in that manner after destroying her home. You are nothing but a clown better watch your back.
"And if she is then what?"
Sophia smiled sweetly.
"Oh nothing," she said lightly. "I just think the timing is… very convenient."
Daniel's brows furrowed slightly.
"What do you mean?"
Sophia turned to him with an innocent expression.
"Think about it, Daniel," she said gently. "Your divorce was just finalized yesterday."
Her eyes shifted briefly toward me.
"And suddenly she's pregnant."
Daniel's expression stiffened.
Sophia continued calmly.
"Don't you think that's a little suspicious?"
For a moment, no one spoke.
My chest tightened, but I forced myself to remain calm.
Mia was already fuming beside me.
"That's ridiculous," she snapped. "Amelia doesn't need to trap anyone."
Sophia shrugged lightly.
"I'm not accusing anyone," she said. "I'm just pointing out the obvious."
Daniel looked at me again.
Something unreadable passed through his eyes.
But before he could say anything, I spoke first.
"You're thinking too much."
All three of them looked at me.
I lifted my chin slightly.
"This child has nothing to do with Daniel."
Sophia blinked.
Daniel frowned.
"What?"
My voice remained steady.
"I said it has nothing to do with him."
For a brief moment, Daniel simply stared at me.
His expression changed subtly.
Confusion.
Then something else.
Something closer to doubt.
Sophia noticed it instantly.
Her hand wrapped around Daniel's arm.
"Well, that's good then," she said quickly with a bright smile.
"At least we don't have to worry about unnecessary complications."
But the atmosphere had already shifted.
I didn't want to stay another second.
"Let's go, Mia."
This time we walked away without looking back.
Daniel stood still long after Amelia disappeared down the corridor.
Something about the way she spoke earlier kept replaying in his mind.
This child has nothing to do with Daniel.
There was no hesitation in her voice.
No fear.
No pleading.
Just certainty.
Sophia tugged his sleeve slightly.
"Daniel?"
He blinked.
"Yes?"
"Why are you still staring?" she asked lightly.
Daniel looked away.
"Nothing."
But the strange feeling in his chest refused to disappear.
For three years Amelia had always tried to hold onto him.
Even when he was cold.
Even when he ignored her.
Yet today…
She had walked away without looking back.
As if he truly meant nothing anymore.
The thought left an unfamiliar weight in his chest.
A few floors above, another pair of eyes had quietly witnessed the entire scene.
Lucas Grant stood near the large glass window outside the VIP consultation area.
Tall.
Composed.
His dark suit was perfectly tailored.
His assistant stood beside him holding a tablet.
"Mr. Grant, the doctor is ready."
Lucas didn't move immediately.
His gaze remained fixed on the elevator doors that had just closed moments ago.
"Who was that woman?" he asked suddenly.
The assistant blinked.
"Which one, sir?"
"The one on blue gown that just left ."
The assistant quickly checked the hospital records on his tablet.
After a moment, he answered.
"Amelia Hart."
Lucas repeated the name silently in his mind.
Amelia Hart.
He had only watched the scene for a few minutes.
But something about her quiet composure had caught his attention.
Most people in that situation would have argued.
Or cried.
But she didn't.
Lucas turned slightly toward the window.
Outside, the afternoon sun cast long shadows across the city.
"Interesting," he murmured.
"Sir?" the assistant asked.
Lucas shook his head lightly.
"Nothing."
But deep down, he had a strange feeling.
Fate had a peculiar way of bringing certain people into one's path.
And something told him—
This brief moment at the hospital was only the beginning.
