Chapter 1 - Prologue: A Hole in the Sky

The sea was wrong.

It wasn't the churning rage of a Yonko's storm or the eerie calm of the Calm Belt. It was a silent, cosmic wrongness. The sky above the Thousand Sunny had split open, not with lightning, but with a tear of swirling, violet light. Stars shone through a wound in reality itself.

On the deck, Monkey D. Luffy stared upwards, his straw hat gripped firmly on his head. "Whoa... it's pretty!"

"That's not pretty, that's a spatial rupture!" Franky yelled, his cola-powered systems going haywire. "My sensors can't even read it!"

A powerful, invisible force began to pull at the ship. Nami screamed, holding onto the mast. Sanji kicked at the railing, trying to brace himself. Zoro stood firm, a hand on his swords, his eye narrowed at the void.

"Luffy!" Chopper cried, his small body being tugged towards the sky.

The pull intensified. It wasn't targeting the ship, but a single point on the deck. It was targeting Luffy. A beam of impossible energy, invisible and irresistible, lassoed around his waist.

"Eh?" Luffy looked down as his feet left the deck. "Hey! What's happening?! My body is moving on its own!"

"Captain!" Jinbe roared, lunging for Luffy's leg. His hand passed through a shimmering distortion.

"LUFFY!" The voices of his crew became a distant echo as he was yanked upwards, a shooting star of rubber and defiance against the fabric of spacetime.

He reached out a hand, not to grab something, but in a final, desperate wave. "I'll be back! I promise!"

And then the tear in the sky sealed with a thunderclap, leaving behind a silent, empty sea and a crew staring at the spot where their captain had been.

Chapter 1: The Strange World and the Turtle Hermit

Luffy slammed into something hard. It wasn't water, but dirt. He groaned, spitting out a mouthful of grass. He was in a forest, but the trees were tall and blue, with leaves that shimmered like they were made of light. The air was crisp and clean, tasting of something he couldn't quite place. It felt... tingly.

He stood up, patting himself down. His hat was safe. His sandals were on. His stomach was already rumbling.

"Where's the meat?" he mumbled, looking around. There was no sea, no Sunny, no sound of his crew's laughter. A rare, quiet panic began to set in. "Shishishi, they'll find me. I'm their captain!"

He started walking, his rubber legs bouncing him through the alien forest with ease. He came across a small village with round, white houses. The people, who looked mostly human except for tails some of them had, stared at him with wide eyes.

"Whoa, a tail!" Luffy exclaimed, pointing at a small boy. "Can I touch it?"

Before the boy could answer, a deep, rumbling roar shook the ground. The villagers screamed. "The Dinosaur! It's back!"

From the other side of the village, a massive reptile, easily fifty feet tall with teeth like swords, crashed through a building. It was like something out of Little Garden, but radiating a palpable pressure that made the air feel heavy.

Luffy's serious face slid into place. "A big monster? That means there's probably a really strong guy around to fight!" His grin returned. "But first, I gotta beat this thing so I can ask for food!"

The dinosaur swiped a clawed hand at a fleeing woman. In a flash of red, Luffy was there, his body stretching to wrap around her and pull her to safety. "Gomu Gomu no... Pistol!" His fist shot forward, stretching back and slamming into the dinosaur's snout.

THWUMP.

The dinosaur stumbled back, shaking its head. It was dazed, but it wasn't down. It glared at Luffy, its eyes glowing with a sinister red light. It opened its mouth, and a ball of crackling orange energy began to form.

"What's that?" Luffy asked, tilting his head in genuine curiosity. "A firecracker?"

The dinosaur fired the blast. Luffy, with the instincts of a fighter who'd dodched Pacifista lasers, easily sidestepped. The energy ball streaked past him and obliterated a large boulder behind him, leaving a smoking crater.

The power, the sheer destructive force of that little ball, was different. It wasn't just physical. It felt like that attack could have actually hurt him. A spark of excitement ignited in his chest. This world was interesting.

He was about to attack again when a voice boomed from behind him. "KAMEHAME—"

Luffy whipped around. A strange old man with a bald head, a long white beard, sunglasses, and a giant shell on his back was standing there, his hands cupped at his hip.

"GYAAAAH!" Luffy screamed, his eyes popping out of his head. "A grandpa with a shell! Are you a hermit crab?!"

The old man's hands were glowing with brilliant blue light. "—HA!"

A torrent of blue energy erupted from his palms, a beam of pure power that shot past Luffy and engulfed the dinosaur. The creature didn't even have time to roar. It was erased from existence, leaving only a faint shimmer in the air where it once stood.

The village fell silent. The old man panted slightly, then smiled. "My, my. A bit rusty."

Luffy's jaw was on the floor. His eyes were sparkling like a child seeing a fireworks display for the first time. "WOOOOW! What was that?! That was so cool! It was all blue and shiny and it went BOOM! Can you do it again?!"

The old man chuckled, adjusting his sunglasses. "My, my. An energetic one. That is the Kamehameha, a technique of the Turtle School. I am its master, the Turtle Hermit. Though most just call me Master Roshi."

"Master Hermit Crab Grandpa!" Luffy declared, having already decided on the name. "Teach me that! I'll give you meat!"

Master Roshi observed the boy. The rubber body, the impossible stretching, the complete lack of fear. He saw the latent power in him, raw and untamed. He also saw a pure heart, marred only by an insatiable appetite. He reminded him of two other boys, long ago.

"My, my. You're a peculiar one, boy. Where did you come from?"

Luffy's smile faded slightly. "I dunno. There was a hole in the sky and now my friends are gone. I gotta find them and get back to the sea!"

"Hmm. A traveler from another dimension, perhaps?" Roshi mused. "Well, you certainly have the spirit of a martial artist. Tell you what, boy. You want to learn the Kamehameha? Then you'll have to earn it."

Luffy's grin returned. "Okay! What do I have to do?"

"You have to bring me a young, beautiful girl to—"

A young woman with long black hair and a stern expression appeared behind Roshi, grabbing him by the ear. "Master, are you being a lecherous old man again?"

"Ow, ow, ow, Bulma! Let go! I was just testing his moral fiber!"

Luffy just laughed, pointing. "Shishishi! The old man's getting in trouble!"

End of Chapter 1.
