Chapter 2 - Life Exchange #1.2

Life Exchange #1.2

I woke up in a bedroom that I could never believe belonged to a 21-year-old. He seems to have a unique sense of fashion that I couldn't put into words; it was a blend of death and peace, black and white, love and hate. The walls were filled with posters that showcased various concepts; I couldn't really tell if he was the artist behind them. It looked personal, almost surreal, like a lost memory.

Sunlight revealed colors that should not have worked together–yet they did. Nevertheless, I needed to check on my new parents. Parents who, hopefully, would take me in as one of their own.

"Big brother, finally you are here! Mum brought a basket full of sweets just for you and me," she said with sparkling eyes, awaiting a sweet reply, just as sweet as her candies. A younger sister as adorable as this, it feels almost too good to be true.

I would have to see for myself how this is gonna work out. I don't want to disappoint her, so I decided to play along.

"That is not fair, though I have to pay the candy adult fee because candies are for little children," I said teasingly, unaware she would take it seriously.

"Nonsense, bring me the person who made this rule! I will kick him. You will have my other half, no rejection accepted. You may now receive your candy!"

"Alright, then I will have this for now." I smiled, thinking of how good it would have been if she were really my sister. But, I still feel distant. Nonetheless, This has to work out.

It was a bright sunny day. Not too hot, just perfectly warm for our stay at the beach. Refreshing, windy, and lively. It holds some beautiful sceneries with the mountains standing tall, yet looking smaller than a building. The Water was a mix of turquoise and sea blue, it also had a clear look to it. Never knew I would spend a whole day playing with my younger sister, whom I have just seen today. But, I must say today is the happiest.

I remember the guy at the counter when he told me the family background is to be received after the exchange, yet I don't know where I am at or who I am with. My sister felt like I was acting a bit strangely, too, but she talked her heart out anyway.

I had to carry her back home as she fell asleep on my shoulders. All I knew of my family was that I had a mother. I guess my sister is more interested in linguistics and candy than family connections. Although the contrast is crazy, I love that about her, though.

The scenery from the car was just as soothing, and the smell of fresh sea salt was just the cherry on top. I still do not know where the owner's phone is, but at a moment like this, I would really like to forget such things.

"Mum, I am back," I said, desperately waiting for a reply. I was hoping she would cure the hole my mother left me with.

"Where were you and Selena?" she said with a gravitating temper. Almost shattering all the hope that was left in my heart.

"I just took her for a walk on the beach. It is only 30 minutes away from here."

"Do not think I do not know what you are up to! You always take your sister just to deceive me. Remember last time?" She said, screaming. All I was hoping for was for her not to wake my sister up now. I don't want her to see me like this. I don't want to be like this again.

"Mum, I really do not remember. Please don't mention this. We can talk later."

"You really don't remember?" Mum said with a confused look on her face. I wouldn't say she feels like she don't recognize her own son, but she doesn't understand his recent weird behaviour.

"I found you gambling away your hard-earned money, just to get us a bunch of money with no value to us at all," she said, tearing up. But, the sight of me changing a bit, planted a hope in her heart.

"I don't want you to end up like these teenagers doing reckless things to appear "cool" just to end up at the police station charged with crimes that would ruin your youth," she said, finally calming her tone. She actually sounds like a mother.

"You know I care about you. This is why I am like this to you," she said, breathing heavily.

"Your appointment is at 8 pm, I am not taking no for an answer," she stormed back to the kitchen, trying to hold herself up. I held no reaction, just bits of disappointment.

I found out I don't have a father. But what about the rest of the story? I cannot possibly ask her to tell me about Dad. At the end of the day, I am supposed to know that I am their only son. The one who is supposed to take care of his little sister, but instead was taking her to a cafe where she sat alone, just to deceive his own mother from his wrongdoings.

Why does she still like me, though? I feel like I hit a soft spot for her; she seemed like she was more relieved that I was listening. I found it strange at the time, but maybe this is the reason. Does the previous owner feel guilty that he had to exchange his life? And what about his sister? Does he just trust her with someone whom he has never met? It sounded strange to me, but I traded my life too.

The air felt stuffy; my mother had practically removed any electronics from my room, hoping I wouldn't contact any of my bad friends. I was stuck here with my thoughts. I am definitely not insane for the reasons she believed–but I am for another reason.

I was stripped away from reality when I met my younger sister, and I completely forgot the purpose of my stay. Find love, parental love. But things took another turn, maybe for the better.

You never know the purpose, though you only know your purpose. I think he had his reasons for his exchange, just like I had mine. It was my younger sister who made me fall in love with this world, but I am not myself. I am someone I do not recognize.
