Chapter 1 - PROLOGUE : RUBY, THE GODDESS

I sat there, eyes wide as everyone yelled and screamed around me. It took me a few minutes to realize but soon enough, the realization finally sunk into my thick skull. The plane was going to crash!

No... Not like this! I'm too young to die!

I clenched my eyes shut as everyone's screams and yells became louder and louder, filling up my senses and making me feel dizzy.

It's kind of funny, to be honest. How the first thing that I could think about in a situation like this is how I hate hearing people making loud noises.

And the last thing that I thought about when I was nearing death was my own family.

Without even realizing it, tears fell down my eyes as I bit down on my lip. I guess this is just how it is, how it would all end. After everything -- after the sacrifices, the hardships, and... and after all that pain. Death simply refuses to let me live peacefully.

...

"Alright, that's enough excitement for today! Let's take it easy for now, yeah?"

...

Slowly opening my eyes, I looked around in confusion. Strange. Didn't I die already?

"You did."

My eyes scanned the empty pit of darkness and silence yet again, stopping only when my eyes met with a pair of crimson red ones.

"Hello, Eli," the woman grinned, sharp fangs coming into view.

... What the fuck?

"Now now, let's not use such vile words in my territory, alright?" The woman chuckled as she leaned back ready to fall, only to be caught by the sudden appearance of a fluffy cloud.

When the cloud appeared, the darkness dissipated and what could only be described as Heaven came into view.

"Now then, Eli," she hummed as she picked up a glass of wine that came out of nowhere, "tell me about yourself."

I blinked. "Uh... Don't you think you should introduce yourself before that? I'm kinda confused right now." And that's a surprise all by itself because I rarely get confused!

She took a sip of her wine. "Hmm... Alright then. I'm quite aware of the fact that I may be getting ahead of myself as well. So why don't I be more of a proper lady for once and do something ladylike?"

She placed her glass of wine down on another cloud that appeared out of thin air. Clearing her throat, she smiled. "Hello, darling. My name is" --she looked to the side for a split second-- "Ruby. I'm a Creator and a goddess."

"... Ha. Haha. Funny. Now who are you really?" A goddess? Seriously? I may be dense but I'm not an idiot.

She picked up a cookie, tilting her head in confusion. I'm already used to seeing her pick up things out of thin air for me to comment on her actions any further. "I'm not bluffing. I am a goddess. Otherwise, how would I be able to summon things out of nowhere hmm?"

Damn it. She has a point. And she had been reading my mind since earlier so...

"Yes, I have! And frankly, you have quite the peculiar mind there, young lady."

"Don't read my mind without permission," I glared. She simply shrugged in response before picking up her wine to take yet another sip.

"Now then! It's your turn to introduce yourself," she grinned.

"You definitely already know who I am, judging from that nickname you gave me," I bit my lip slightly, remembering something as I said that.

She stared down at me, her bright crimson eyes shining with intrigue and amusement. The woman already knows what I was thinking.

"Elisse Arrington..."

She raised an eyebrow, making me bite my lip a bit harder. "Elisse Arrington. That's my name. I'm... a human."

She smiled. "But of course you are, dear! It's a pleasure to finally meet you, Elisse."

I nodded before looking away. "A- Anyways, where was I again?"

"Dying?"

"Oh, right," I sighed. "So you say that I have already died."

She nodded her head while continuing to eat. Weird goddess. She acts more like a child rather than a powerful entity to be honest. But then again, this might just be her personality and she's actually far more powerful than she let on.

"Why am I here?" She stopped eating, wiping her mouth with the back of her wrist. Then she stared at me with a more serious expression -- which is actually kind of surprising since she acted more like a child than an actual adult. "You have been chosen to go to the world I have created, where magic and mystery roams free. A creature of evil has been unleashed, and you will be the hero who saves my people from total destruction."

"Sounds like a video game," I deadpanned.

"Eh, it kind of is." And there she is again, back to being a child. "But it's more serious because real lives are on the line, and you're the only one who can save them."

This girl. She's trying to guilt trip me!

She smirked, no doubt already reading my mind. "So? What do you say, Eli? Are you ready to be a hero? Or are you just going to leave all those poor people to die?"

I don't want to fight. I've never been a fighter in my entire life. I've always been spoiled, convinced that all I had to do to get through life was to use money here and there. So what could I -- a spoiled little bitch -- do to save all those humans? I might as well just let them be. I mean, I should have.

But I didn't.

"Fine. What do I have to do?"

Ruby grinned. Fuck, I'm regretting this already.

...

The next second, I was in an unfamiliar room -- internally crashing out and wondering where the fuck I was at now.
