Chapter 78 – A New Beginning
Los Angeles, California – The Passing of Years
The years passed like a gentle breeze carrying the seasons from one place to another, bringing inevitable changes.
Jason and Ziva lived a quiet and happy life in Los Angeles, enjoying every moment life gave them.
NCIS continued its course, new generations took over the positions once held by veterans, and one of the agency's biggest names finally said goodbye.
Leroy Jethro Gibbs retired.
Washington, D.C.
At NCIS headquarters, the office looked different without the imposing presence of Leroy Jethro Gibbs.
He was no longer the leader of MCRT.
After decades serving as a special agent, mentor, and legend within the agency, Gibbs decided it was time to follow another path.
On the day of his official farewell, the agency's corridors were filled with a mixture of admiration and nostalgia.
McGee, now the team leader, looked at Gibbs with respect.
"Will you miss this place?"
Gibbs gave a small smile.
"The work? Maybe. But I've done my part."
Tony, who had returned just for the event, smiled and crossed his arms.
"I bet you'd never leave."
Gibbs looked at him and gave the former agent a light tap on the head.
"Never bet against me, DiNozzo."
Everyone laughed.
And with that, Gibbs said goodbye to his second home.
Shortly after retirement, Gibbs finally did something no one expected—he remarried.
He and Jack Sloane made their relationship official, choosing to live a quieter life, away from investigations and constant danger.
They moved to a house near the water, where Gibbs could spend his days doing carpentry and Jack could continue her work as a psychologist.
It was a new beginning. And, for the first time in a long time, Gibbs seemed truly at peace.
Los Angeles, California – Jason and Ziva's Home
Jason was sitting in the living room, reading a book, when Ziva entered holding something small and rectangular.
She seemed hesitant, but there was a different glint in her eyes.
Jason noticed immediately.
"What is it?"
Ziva took a deep breath and held out a positive pregnancy test.
Jason was silent for a moment, looking at the object in her hands.
His heart raced.
He looked up at Ziva, who was now smiling softly.
"We're going to have a baby, Gibbs."
For a few seconds, he was speechless.
Then, finally, he let out a surprised laugh and pulled Ziva into a tight hug.
"Oh my God… we're going to be parents."
Ziva snuggled into his arms, closing her eyes.
"Yes. And I don't think I've ever been happier."
Jason kissed the top of her head, still absorbing the news.
"This is incredible."
They stayed like that for a while, just savoring the moment that would change their lives forever.
A few weeks later, Jason and Ziva traveled to visit Gibbs.
At the house near the water, Gibbs was working on a piece of wood when he heard the sound of a car approaching.
He looked up and saw Jason and Ziva getting out of the vehicle.
He wiped his hands on his pants and walked to the porch, observing them with an appraising look.
"You two look different."
Jason and Ziva exchanged glances and smiled.
"We have news, Dad."
Gibbs crossed his arms.
"Then tell us."
Ziva stepped forward and placed her hand on her belly.
"You're going to be a grandfather."
For a moment, Gibbs was completely still.
He blinked a few times, absorbing the words. Jason watched him intently, trying to predict his reaction.
Then, something rare happened.
Gibbs smiled genuinely—a wide, genuine smile, full of emotion.
"Seriously?"
Ziva nodded.
"Yes."
Gibbs approached and placed a hand on Jason's shoulder, squeezing firmly before hugging him.
Then, he turned to Ziva and hugged her too, with a silent affection.
"This…this is great news."
Jason smiled at the gleam in his father's eyes.
"I think we're going to need some advice, Grandpa Gibbs."
Gibbs rolled his eyes, but couldn't hide his smile.
"If you want the child to grow up as tough as iron, maybe I can help."
Everyone laughed.
And there, in that simple moment, a new phase of life began for all of them.
Jason and Ziva would continue building their family together, living a life full of love and memories.
Gibbs, now retired, would have the chance to enjoy a new phase as a grandfather.
And, finally, they all found the peace they had been searching for.
Because, in the end, true happiness has always been found in the people we love.
